Spurs fans have discovered the reality of playing away at PSG.
Just as Newcastle United fans found out two seasons ago.
The same as the fans of all the other English clubs have experienced, when playing PSG away in the Champions League.
Indeed, supporters of any other European club, when facing PSG away in the top level competition.
The UEFA rules state that in their competitions, away fans should be entitled to at least five per cent of the capacity.
The PSG home capacity in the Champions League matches is somewhere between 47,000 and 48,000, which means away fans should get something around 2,350-2,400 tickets.
Newcastle United fans though, just as Spurs fans are now discovering, only got an allocation of 2,000 tickets for PSG away.
A lot of angry Spurs fans ahead of their PSG away game on Wednesday 26 November 2025, so few tickets, which has led Tottenham to issue this explanation.
Spurs official announcement:
‘Supporters will note that our ticket allocation for this match is below the five per cent allocation that all visiting clubs are entitled to under UEFA competition regulations. The Club requested the full allocation and have been in dialogue with both PSG and UEFA on this issue. We have been informed the reduced ticket allocation is a safety and security directive from the local authorities in Paris, which applies to all European matches played at Parc des Princes.’
This is a pure stitch up between PSG and the local authorities in Paris.
This is the richest club in France, in the richest city in France, claiming they can’t safely accommodate more than 2,000 away fans. Which is against the UEFA competition rules
The President of PSG, Nasser bin Ghanim Al-Khelaifi, is also a member of UEFA’s Executive Committee.
The 2025 Deloitte rich list of football clubs showed that PSG have the third highest turnover in world football, a turnover of €806m (approximately £700m).
PSG are also the reigning Champions League title holders.
Yet they have broken the UEFA rules for years and continue to do so.
If PSG/Paris aren’t capable of safely accommodating more than 2,000 visiting fans, they shouldn’t be allowed to host Champions League matches at their stadium.
Sadly, we all know that the days are long gone of past Champions League adventures, such as when Newcastle United took around 13,000 fans to the San Siro when playing Inter Milan, as well as so many other huge followings that were able to go to big European away trips and get to see their team play abroad. Visits to Barcelona, Antwerp and so on.
However, it is a total joke that a club such as PSG can refuse to even comply with the meagre five per cent rule for away fans.
