Dialogue recording for Incredibles 3 is set to begin soon, according to franchise star Holly Hunter. At D23 2024, it was confirmed that Pixar was moving forward with Incredibles 3. Franchise creator and director of Incredibles and Incredibles 2, Brad Bird, will not direct the sequel, though he is writing the screenplay. Peter Sohn, who directed The Good Dinosaur and Elemental, will helm Incredibles 3.
Speaking with Screen Rant to promote her role in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Holly Hunter gave an update on Incredibles 3. Hunter, who voices Helen Parr / Elasti-Girl in the Incredibles film series, says that she will begin recording her lines soon. “I think I start in March,” Hunter said. Hunter has not read the script yet, but says she will find out soon when she goes in to record her lines. Regarding the plot for Incredibles 3, Hunter said:
“I don’t know. I never do know. I never know what the stories are of Incredibles. I go in and I record with Brad, or in this case, I don’t know if it’s going to be Brad, but I think that he’s been writing the script. So it’s very exciting.”
When Will ‘Incredibles 3’ Be Released?
Incredibles 3 is the latest in a long line of sequels for Pixar, a company that was once best known for original ideas. Since the COVID-19 pandemic and Disney’s decision to send many of Pixar’s original titles to Disney+, titles like Elemental struggled at the box office, while Elio disappointed more severely at the box office. Contrast that with the fact that sequels like Inside Out 2, Incredibles 2, Finding Dory, Toy Story 4, and Toy Story 3 all make up Pixar’s highest-grossing films of all time. The studio is set to release Toy Story 5 in June 2026 and is currently developing Coco 2.
Incredibles 3 currently has no set release date. The last Pixar film currently dated is the original film, Gatto, which will open in theaters on Mar. 5, 2027. Pete Doctor said Incredibles 3 and Coco 2 will be “2028 and beyond.” Incredibles 3 might aim for the 2028 window, as it would mark 10 years since the release of Incredibles 2 in 2018 and 24 years since The Incredibles opened in 2004.
The Incredibles is one of Pixar’s most profitable and critically acclaimed franchises. The original film grossed $631 million at the worldwide box office, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2004, and it received near-universal praise, with 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film. Anticipation for the sequel was high, and Incredibles 2 grossed $1.2 billion worldwide and was the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2018. The movie has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, which certainly sets very high expectations for Incredibles 3.
