‘Highlander’ BTS Images Find Henry Cavill Blood-Soaked

After years of waiting, Henry Cavill is finally filming the long-awaited Highlander reboot…and there will be blood. John Wick director Chad Stahelski takes the helm of the Highlander franchise, which will reintroduce audiences to this action fantasy tale of an immortal warrior who must do battle with fellow immortals across time. Highlander is currently filming in London, England, with the latest batch of images and footage sure to get fans’ engines revving…

The most recent footage and images from the set of Highlander find Cavill sitting atop a motorcycle and sporting a particularly bloody head wound before walking towards St. Paul’s Cathedral, which is likely to act as a stand-in for the headquarters of The Watchers, a secret society of humans who keep track of the lives and activities of the immortals.

The footage also seemingly shows Henry Cavill limping. Now, whether this is part of his character (one would presume not, as the immortals by their nature heal quickly), it could suggest that the actor and former Man of Steel has not yet fully recovered from the injury he sustained during training for Highlander back in September last year. Based on what we’ve seen so far, no injury is going to keep Cavill from finally leading the highly anticipated reboot.

Henry Cavill Will Face Off With Dave Bautista in ‘Highlander’

Directed by John Wick’s Chad Stahelski, and written by Kerry Williamson and Mike Finch, Highlander has amassed an all-star cast alongside Henry Cavill. The former Superman will reunite with his Man of Steel co-star Russell Crowe, who is expected to play the mentor character portrayed in the original by Sean Connery, with the rest of the cast including MCU alumni Karen Gillan and Djimon Hounsou, as well as Marisa Abela (Industry), Max Zhang (Blades of the Guardians), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jeremy Irons, and MCU and Dune actor Dave Bautista, who will play the main villain of the piece, The Kurgan.

Highlander does not yet have a release date but will be released by Amazon MGM Studios. While plot details haven’t been officially revealed, the reboot is expected to follow a similar plot to the 1986 original, which centers on swordsman Connor MacLeod as he discovers that he is one of a number of immortal warriors. After living somewhat peacefully for several centuries, MacLeod settles in New York City and is soon dragged back onto the battlefield when his greatest enemy returns to kill him. A leaked synopsis seemingly confirms this, while also hinting that the reboot will add details from Highlander: The Series. You can check it out below…

“Centuries after his first death on a Scottish battlefield, immortal warrior Connor MacLeod lives quietly in the modern world, haunted by loss and the endless cycle of violence among his kind. When the ruthless immortal Kurgan resurfaces, backed by a secret organization bent on unlocking the secret of eternal life, Connor is forced back into the Game – an ancient battle where ‘there can be only one.’

Guided by his mentor Ramírez and a mortal ally, archaeologist Kate Bennett, Connor must confront his past and rediscover his purpose. As immortals clash across time and continents, the fight for the mysterious ‘Prize’ becomes a battle for humanity’s soul.”
