The former Spurs captain will be at the club’s Champions League game next Tuesday to say goodbye to the fans
Heung-Min Son is set to return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next month, giving him the chance to say goodbye to supporters for the first time since leaving the club in the summer.
Spurs have confirmed that the former captain will be welcomed back during the Champions League tie against Slavia Prague on Tuesday, December 9.
Son announced his departure during the club’s pre-season tour of South Korea in August, playing his final Spurs match in front of a sell-out crowd at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
He later joined Los Angeles FC in MLS, where he scored nine goals in ten appearances before their play-off exit to Vancouver Whitecaps on November 23.
Tottenham have said that Son will step onto the pitch before the team walk-outs ahead of kick-off, giving him the opportunity to speak directly to the home crowd.
It is expected to be an emotional occasion for a player who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and went on to become one of the most celebrated figures in recent club history.
Work has also begun on a new street mural on Tottenham High Road dedicated to Son. The artwork, designed by the player and created by Murwalls – the group behind murals of Ledley King and Harry Kane – is due to be completed ahead of his return on 9 December.
Reflecting on the chance to say farewell in person, Son said: “When I announced my difficult decision to leave Spurs in the summer, it was in Korea and I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to fans at the stadium.
“Now I am so happy because I am going to come back to London on 9th December, for the Champions League match, and be able to tell the Spurs fans in person just how much their support and love over 10 years has meant to me and my family. It will be emotional, but it’s important for me and the Club that this happens.”
Son spent ten seasons in N17, making 454 appearances and scoring 173 goals – the fifth-highest total in club history.
He is remembered for a long list of landmark moments, including the first official goal at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April 2019 and his role in helping Spurs reach their first Champions League final later that year.
His individual achievements included winning the FIFA Puskas Award in 2020 for his length-of-the-pitch solo goal against Burnley and claiming the Premier League Golden Boot in 2021-22 with 23 goals.
He also became the highest-scoring Asian player in Premier League history and was voted “Best Footballer in Asia” nine times.
Son’s defining moment came in May 2025, when he captained Spurs to Europa League success in Bilbao. Lifting the trophy placed him among only 13 captains in the club’s history to win a major honour and cemented his legacy in north London.
