Former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has lavished praise on our side after our resounding 5-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
And one player in particular caught the 70-year-old’s attention.
Integral to our recent success, Allardyce wants this player to keep up his consistently strong performances, declaring “Long may he keep it up.”
Speaking on Friday’s morning TalkSport with Alan Brazil and Gabriel Agbonlahor, discussion soon centred around our big win over Palace, which Allardyce commented kept him glued to the TV.
Even with Real Madrid and Arsenal on another channel, Allardyce was blown away by the Toon “I got stuck on Newcastle, because they were that good! ”
Wednesday’s 5-0 win was our biggest win of the season so far, with our quality against such a tough opponent drawing immense acclaim from fans and pundits alike.
When asked about Jacob Murphy and his recent form, which included a stunning opener against the Eagles, Allardyce summed up Murphy’s recent performances perfectly.
“He’s turbo-charged. He’s up and down that right hand side now like you’ve never seen.”
“I don’t quite know where it’s come from. It’s not just a one-off, it’s a consistent level at the moment. He must have just clicked on what he does week in and week out.”
“Whatever he’s doing, keep it up because it’s paid off brilliantly. Obviously what Newcastle and what Eddie Howe and the lads have done for him to help him along the way, I’m sure that’s a big thing with the way he’s playing.”
“Long may he keep it up, I think he is causing all sorts of problems.”
Whilst only Mo Salah has more assists than Murphy this season, that doesn’t mean that feeding Isak is all that this truly brilliant season has consisted of for the 30-year-old.
Take his sensational strike to open the scoring on Wednesday night, an unstoppable effort from an impossible angle that Dean Henderson had no chance of stopping.
Allardyce was quick to rave about Murphy’s wonderful effort:
“But what a goal! And he meant it by the way, don’t give me any of this ‘It was a fluke’ or anything like that, because he has a couple of looks up before he hits it, and he hits it with such power.”
Considering the criticism that the likes of former manager Steve Bruce has thrown towards Eddie Howe’s squad in recent weeks, it’s a welcome change to see a manager (even one as divisive as Allardyce) openly praise the club and its players.
