“He’s getting better all the time” – Huge praise from Howe on Newcastle’s £32m hero

Eddie Howe has singled out a first teamer for praise after consistent performances in recent weeks.

Newcastle have been forced into changes with Lewis Hall and Sven Botman both out injured, while Anthony Gordon has simultaneously completed his three-match suspension.

Several of the lads have stood up and made themselves counted in the absence of some of the key names within the squad – and the contribution of one in particular hasn’t gone unnoticed by the gaffer.

Tino Livramento has looked a complete natural at left back in the absence of Lewis Hall, and has rightly been lauded by Eddie Howe.

It could be argued that Tino has looked even better at left back. Keeping Jarrod Bowen, Mo Salah and Bryan Mbeumo quiet in consecutive games is no minor feat, playing a huge role in back-to-back league wins and that huge victory at Wembley that saw us lift the Carabao Cup.

Not only that, he has proved his two-footedness and ability in attack with several dangerous crosses coming after he has pushed forward down the flank – even directly contributing to Alexander Isak’s goal in the cup final.

Howe is a big fan of Tino’s contributions: “Yeah, Tino’s done really well. I think another big game for him today, because he’s playing against arguably their most dangerous player [Mbeumo]. I thought he defended very well.

“Athletically, Tino’s excellent, and we know that. We’ve seen that since he’s come to the football club. But to have the responsibility of playing left-back on the opposite side to his natural foot and play the way that he has.

“I just see Tino improving and he’s getting better all the time. We’re delighted to have him.”

Wednesday evening’s win over Brentford was the latest showcase of a blossoming partnership between Tino and Harvey Barnes.

Forced into life with Hall and Gordon unavailable, the natural chemistry between the current pairing on the left hand side has been evident in the last three matches.

Howe commented: “He (Livramento) is also building the relationship with Harvey [Barnes] that he has done, they’ve played very well together. I thought Harvey was very good again today.”
