Former Superman and The Witcher star Henry Cavill makes one popular action hero. This is best reflected in his action outing from last year, which is now climbing the streaming charts.
Directed and co-written by Guy Ritchie, last year’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare stars a large ensemble alongside Henry Cavill that includes Eiza González (Baby Driver), Alan Ritchson (Reacher), Henry Golding (The Old Guard 2), Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike), Hero Fiennes Tiffin (The Woman King), Cary Elwes (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning), and Freddie Fox (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword). The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has now found itself in the Top 10 on the streaming platform STARZ, alongside the likes of Jason Statham’s Expend4bles, the panned horror reboot The Exorcist: Believer, and Michael Mann’s Miami Vice. Critics Liked ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,’ but Audiences Loved It
While The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare was met with solid reviews from critics, landing a rating of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences were taken with this true-ish tale of Henry Cavill and his rag-tag special forces crew. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is now one of the actor’s highest-rated movies on the review aggregator site among audiences, second only to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, boasting a score of 91% on the Popcornmeter.
Though critics did praise the “high-octane” action and spectacle, calling The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare “another solid entry into Guy Ritchie’s pantheon,” they clearly found flaws in the operation. In contrast, audiences could not praise the action war movie highly enough, declaring it a “rock solid, well-acted action with the added bonus of a story that’s based on actual events.”
While he may have left the likes of Superman and Geralt behind, Henry Cavill has plenty of major projects currently in the pipeline. The actor will reunite with Guy Ritchie and his The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare co-star Eiza González for the action thriller In the Grey, also starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Cavill, a well-known nerd, will also headline the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 live-action series for Prime Video, and lead John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s long-awaited Highlander reboot, also for Amazon.
Cavill is also part of the cast for the live-action adaptation of the beloved 80s cartoon, Voltron, which producer Bob Koplar recently revealed has now wrapped filming. “Our live-action Voltron film has officially wrapped production, and we’re THRILLED with how it all went,” he said via Instagram. “I’ve been with this franchise for years and can proudly say that this WILL be the Voltron experience our fans have been dreaming of. There’s been some chatter out there about the plans for the film’s launch and we’d like to assure you, when the official plans are set for the film, you will be the first to hear it right here.
