A largely overlooked (and what was once a long-forgotten) action thriller starring former Man of Steel and fan-favorite actor Henry Cavill continues to find surprising success on free streaming. While the movie may have both bombed at the box office and been torn apart by critics at the time, audiences have clearly found a lot to love in this gritty tale of a determined detective who’s on the hunt for whoever has started abducting women.
The panned action thriller in question is Night Hunter (aka Nomis), which finds Henry Cavill taking the lead as detective Walter Marshall, a no-nonsense cop tasked with tracking down an elusive serial killer. The actor leaves the clean-cut DC icon behind to sport a far more disheveled look as the classic detective with nothing to live for but his job. Oh, and he doesn’t like playing by the rules either, as he throws his superheroic weight around to get things done.
Written and directed by David Raymond and starring Ben Kingsley, Alexandra Daddario, and Stanley Tucci, with Brendan Fletcher, Minka Kelly, and Nathan Fillion alongside Cavill, Night Hunter is once again in the global top 10 on Paramount+, with the action thriller having found itself climbing up and down the charts for months now. Night Hunter is joined at the tippy top by the likes of Gladiator II, the thriller Humane, and several Mission: Impossible movies, including this year’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. You can check out the official synopsis for Night Hunter below.
“A police lieutenant, his entire force, and a vigilante become caught up in a dangerous scheme involving a troubled man who’s linked to years of female abductions.”
‘Night Hunter’ Has Found Surprise Streaming Success Despite Failing With Critics
Back when it was released in 2019, Night Hunter was mercilessly panned by critics, with the action thriller outing now stands at just 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences finding more to enjoy but still awarding the movie a divisive 51% on the Popcornmeter.
While he may have suddenly picked up and walked away from the major Netflix franchise The Witcher, as well as seeing his tenure as Superman come to an unceremonious end, Henry Cavill has several major projects currently in the pipeline. The actor is finally set to lead the long-awaited reboot of Highlander from John Wick director Chad Stahelski. After years of waiting, the action fantasy epic is now in production, courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists, with Cavill set to go up against MCU veteran Dave Bautista as the villainous Kurgan.
The actor will also reunite with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare director Guy Ritchie, star Eiza González, and join forces with Jake Gyllenhaal for the upcoming action thriller In the Grey; star in Amazon’s live-action adaptation of the 1980s animated series Voltron from Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber; return as Sherlock Holmes alongside Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes in the Netflix sequel, Enola Holmes 3; and take the lead Amazon’s Warhammer 40k series.
