Saturday Night Live has been known to make bold and creative sketches that can leave people enraged or begging for more, and when Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard hosted the comedy series, that wasn’t any different.
During Wolfhard’s debut as a host for SNL, he performed in a series of skits that left everyone speechless, including a parody of the Harry Potter franchise and the latest pop culture phenomenon, which is the R-rated hockey series Heated Rivalry, titled Heated Wizardry.
The sketch instantly went viral as many people shipped him and his Stranger Things co-star/on-screen best friend Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp), and instead, he is feeding another ship that has been going on for decades between Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The online reactions to the hilarious sketch have been almost as entertaining as the Heated Wizardry skit from fans worldwide.
Also included in the Saturday Night Live episode were some sketches related to Wolfhard’s most notable role as Mike Wheeler in Netflix’s series Stranger Things. There were some jokes and skits, including one which poked fun at a few scenes featured in the final season of the hit sci-fi show.
Many fans were quick to jump on social media to express their distaste for SNL’s take on some sensitive scenes, which included the character Will’s coming out scene to all of his friends. Despite many expressing their dislike, there were also those defending the comedy show’s take on the scene as a dig at the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, for their awkward writing on what should have been an emotional moment.
Wolfhard’s Heated Wizardry skit has been hailed as one of SNL’s best, as the whole episode is being praised worldwide. The actor’s Stranger Things co-stars Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin also joined Wolfhard on stage, which was great for fans of both SNL and the Netflix series to see a small reunion between the on-screen best friends.
Wolfhard has stated he hopes to focus more on music as his decade run on Stranger Things has come to an end. Known for It and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the actor has two upcoming projects coming up titled New-Gen and Crash Land. Fans can only hope that it won’t be the last they see of Wolfhard on Saturday Night Live.
