Godzilla Minus Zero, the much-anticipated sequel to the monstrously successful Godzilla Minus One, has finally set a release date for its big screen debut. The Japan-produced feature, which once again hails from director Takashi Yamazaki, will stomp into theaters in North America on Nov. 6, 2026, from Toho and GKids, in a rare near-simultaneous rollout with the Japanese release, which is set for Nov. 3, a mere three days earlier. The theatrical release schedule is significantly different to that of Godzilla Minus One, which had an almost month-long gap between the Japanese and North American releases back in 2023.
The shortened window between the two releases of Godzilla Minus Zero allows for a coordinated global push of the sequel, capitalizing on the success of the first film and fulfilling fan demand to ensure that audiences in North America are given the opportunity to watch it around the same time. However, it positions itself in a month that has several other major releases, including franchise prequel The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, but based on the staggering success of its predecessor, Godzilla Minus Zero should have no problem standing out in a crowded market.
As Toho notes, the Nov. 3 release date is a historically important date for the Godzilla franchise. It is the same day the original Godzilla film debuted in Japanese theaters in 1954, a date now widely celebrated as “Godzilla Day” to commemorate its anniversary each year. Godzilla Minus One was released in Japan on Nov. 3, 2023, and went on to become the highest-grossing Japan-produced Godzilla film worldwide, earning more than $116 million at the global box office. The sequel is now following in its almighty footsteps with a Nov. 3 release in Japan, with international release dates expected to be announced at a later time.
