God Of War Fans Marking Their Calendars For Possible New Game Shadow Drop

God Of War Fans Marking Their Calendars For Possible New Game Shadow Drop

God of War is among PlayStation’s most successful exclusive franchises, and players have been waiting patiently to see what the next chapter in the saga will bring. Kratos and Atreus’ story is one for the ages, and seeing as it’s been years since God of War Ragnarök released, fans feel like they’re due for the next installment soon.

However, a newly circulating rumor has fans marking their calendars for a potential shadow drop of a brand-new God of War game. Spanish YouTuber Revenant suggests that the heavily rumored 2.5D God of War Metroidvania game set in Greece is likely to shadow drop after the main PlayStation State of Play event ends this Thursday, February 12 (via PushSquare).

According to rumors from Spanish YouTube content creator and journalist Revenant, who is apparently working with Sony to broadcast the event, players should stick around after this week’s State of Play for a massive God of War shadow drop. Lately, there have been reports of a brand-new God of War Metroidvania-style game set in Greece, and it seems likely this would be the project to stealth drop, assuming the rumors are true.

This heavily rumored God of War project, according to leaks from a handful of insiders, would serve as a prequel of sorts to the original game, though no details about it have been officially confirmed. According to insider Jeff Grub (via YouTube), the project was originally going to drop last year but was delayed to 2026, yet another reason why fans are anticipating a surprise reveal or shadow drop this week.

Needless to say, it’s an exciting time to be a God of War fan, with a new Amazon television series in the works on top of the various rumored projects happening behind the scenes.

It’s Just Rumors For Now

While the new God of War project could very well shadow drop, and the PlayStation State of Play is a perfect place and time to do it, it’s worth noting that all of the above information is hearsay at this point. There has been no official confirmation that the 2.5D side-scroller God of War game is even in the works, but if the rumors are true, this would be a huge win for fans.

That said, mum is still the word on an official new mainline entry in the God of War series, and players are obviously keeping their fingers crossed that a surprise announcement could give us a sense of what’s next for Kratos and Atreus.

The PlayStation State of Play is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, February 12 at 5:00PM EST, and will likely be about an hour-long broadcast. If you want to see if the rumors are true, however, you might want to stick around until after the show ends for a possible God of War shadow drop.
