Glen Powell Leads Explosive First Teaser for Stephen King’s ‘The Running Man’

The upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man has received a mysterious teaser trailer. Starring Twisters and Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell, The Running Man is set to be released in theaters on November 7, 2025. Not much has been revealed about the dystopian action movie, but per the trailer announcement, you can expect high-stakes action as Powell becomes a man fighting for his life on a deadly show on prime-time television.

The Running Man is a new reimagining of the 1982 novel of the same name by King (written under his pseudonym, Richard Bachman), which was already adapted in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the lead. The story takes place in a future dystopian society where audiences have become obsessed with a new game show called The Running Man. In the game, the contestants must find a way to escape from hunters who are out to kill them on live television.

Famous for being character-driven films, Stephen King’s adaptations always have memorable performances. These are the most underrated.

The film is directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Last Night in Soho, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), who co-writes with Michael Bacall. The film stars Powell alongside Colman Domingo, Michael Cera, Katy O’Brian, Josh Brolin and Lee Pace, among others. It was Powell himself who made the announcement of the trailer in a video that shows the massive scale of Wright’s vision:

The Running Manis one of severalStephen King adaptationsthat will arrive in the near future. 2025 has already seen the release of two films adapted from two very different stories by the master of horror. Osgood Perkins’The Monkey was released in February, and then it had its digital streaming debut in April. Meanwhile, Mike Flanagan’sThe Life of Chuck had a lukewarm response in theaters after being released in June, and hopefully, it’ll have a better reception once it arrives on streaming (no release date yet).

Before the release of the survival thriller starring Glen Powell, fans of the author will see the TV adaptation of the supernatural thriller The Institute, which will be streaming on MGM+ on July 13. After that, a long-awaited adaptation will be arriving in theaters. Francis Lawrence’s The Long Walk, starring Mark Hamill, Cooper Hoffman, Ben Wang, and Judy Greer, will premiere on Sept.12.

The last quarter of the year will see the release of the highly anticipated TV series It: Welcome to Derry on HBO Max, although no date has been made official by the streamer. Then there are others in production or in development. Flanagan is shooting the TV series Carrie for Amazon MGM Studios, and he’s working on the TV adaptation of King’s literary masterpiece The Dark Tower.

Most recently, it was announced that Doug Liman, of The Bourne Identity and Road House fame, will be remaking The Stand. “Nature bites back” thriller Cujo is also being remade by Netflix. Horror producer Roy Lee will back the film, which is eyeing Darren Aronofsky as director.
