Legendary Roma captain Giuseppe Giannini discussed the latest rumors of Roma’s apparent interest in Gian Piero Gasperini.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Giannini said, “I doubt that the fans would have an issue with it in case of his appointment. If Roma were to make Gasperini’s name official, all the past beliefs about would suddenly be overcome.”
“As has already happened in many other cases. The Atalanta coach is the coach of the moment, he is in vogue, and it is normal that an important club like Roma looks at him with interest.”
“His best quality? The strength of his ideas. Already when he was leading Juventus Primavera he gave the team a precise physiognomy, playing with the 3-4-3 formation. He has precise beliefs in his head and has always carried them forward.”
“In addition, he is a coach who has done a lot of apprenticeship, has coached around Italy and has always been able to combine total play, athleticism and technique. Not an easy mix. He has an iron fist but also knows how to understand the human aspect of the player.”
“The results obtained at Atalanta, after all, speak for him. For a club like Roma that aims to enhance young players with a view to the future, Gasperini seems to me to be a logical choice.”
“There is no shortage of pressure in Rome, we know that. And it applies to everyone. That’s why it would be important, if he were to arrive, to give precise guarantees to Gasperini: especially in the first months of work with a view to a multi-year project.”
“And precisely because the coach’s football is a concentration of great physical strength and high-level technique, he will also have to be put in the position to choose his players, supporting him in every way.”
