After seeing Gen V season 2’s trailer, it is hard not to believe that the spin-off show will be setting up The Boys season 5 and make a massive theory even more likely. Before The Boys ends its run with one final installment, it will be preceded by Gen V‘s second installment, which will unfold all the chaos inside and outside Godolkin University after season 1’s events. As Gen V season 2’s trailer reveals, Dean Cipher, played by Hamish Linklater, will be the newest addition to the series’ cast.
Although many details about the character remain unknown, the trailer confirms that Cipher will be one of the leading figures in Homelander’s supe-supremacy revolution and will help train young supes to align with his radical ideologies. The trailer also shows how Andre Anderson, played by late actor Chance Perdomo, has not been recast. Andre’s father, Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas), will struggle to control his own abilities while grieving his son’s demise. Apart from these details, the trailer also hints at the main young supes’ future, perfectly setting up The Boys season 5.
How The Deep & Firecracker In Gen V Season 2 Help Set Up The Boys Season 5
They Will Find New Supes From Godolkin To Join Homelander’s Army
Gen V season 1 avoided giving prominent roles to most The Boys characters, which made sense because the spin-off had to establish its own identity in the franchise instead of merely riffing on the parent series’ popularity. However, as Gen V season 2’s trailer suggests, it will be drawing several connective threads with the main show by featuring characters like The Deep and Firecracker in relatively more significant roles. The two supes’ appearance in Gen V season 2’s trailer hints that they will continue working under Homelander and help him recruit more young talented supes.

All Seasons Of The Boys & Gen V, Ranked Worst To Best
The Boys universe has produced three seasons of the main series as well as a spinoff show, Gen V. Here is every season ranked from worst to best.
Just like Cate and Sam were taken onboard by the Seven to promote Homelander’s super-first agenda, Firecracker and The Deep’s involvement in Gen V could hint at a broader initiative to radicalize the next generation of supes from Godolkin. Dean Cipher, too, gives out a similar message to his students and the outside world by creating clear divides between humans and supes even inside Godolkin University’s campus. This could perfectly set up The Boys season 5, where the final showdown between Homelander’s supporters and the ones resisting him would unfold.
The “Resist” Homelander Poster Is Also Important For The Boys Season 5
Not Everyone Is Going To Support Homelander Going Into Season 5
After initially showing how Homelander’s reign as a supe leader will only grow from strength to strength, Gen V season 2’s trailer also hints that not everyone will support the red-caped supe’s extremist ideologies. In a brief scene from the trailer, viewers may notice a Homelander poster with the word “RESIST” spray-painted on it. This confirms that even though many young supes will be influenced or coerced into joining his army, several others will stand against him and understand how he and his supporters are wrong.
Given how the final battle in The Boys was always supposed to be between the ones supporting Homelander and the ones against him, Gen V season 2 seems to be perfectly paving the way for it with its subtle story developments. While only time will tell which supes will eventually fall on Homelander’s side, Gen V season 2 clearly seems to align with the franchise’s overarching narrative, where many of its story beats will eventually tie into The Boys season 5.
Marie Joining The Boys Season 5 Seems Even More Likely Now
The Boys Are Running Low On Supe Reinforcements
After Marie was established as the main character in Gen V season 1, it was hard not to believe she would eventually appear as one of the leading forces in The Boys. Her stance against supe supremacists and her final confrontation with Homelander in Gen V season 1 also paved the way for her to eventually join Butcher and the crew in their battle against Homelander. Since Neuman and Marie have similar supe abilities, Neuman’s death in The Boys season 4 also seemingly confirmed that Marie would eventually become her “replacement” in the franchise.
Homelander will likely remain the strongest supe going into The Boys season 4, but Marie could be set up as one of the supes who can give Homelander a run for his money.
While only time will tell how significant of a role Marie will have in The Boys season 5, Gen V season 2’s trailer seems to position her as one of the most in the resistance against Homelander’s growing influence. The trailer also features a scene in which she “pops” a person using her blood-curdling abilities, hinting that her powers will significantly advance in Gen V‘s second installment. Homelander will likely remain the strongest supe going into The Boys season 4, but Marie could be set up as one of the supes who can give Homelander a run for his money.
