Actors Kit Harington and Sophie Turner spent a decade in the realm of Westeros for their work on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and the two are reuniting in another medieval setting for the upcoming The Dreadful, which has just earned a new trailer. In their former fantasy series, both Harington’s Jon Snow and Turner’s Sansa Stark faced off against various threats, though we doubt it was anything like what we’ll be seeing in The Dreadful. The movie lands in theaters on Feb. 20.
Given how much time the actors spent in a series full of knights and swords and chaos, one might think they would be apprehensive to return to that world, and while fans might not initially see what sets The Dreadful apart from Game of Thrones, clearly the actors were excited for the opportunity, regardless of any connection it might have to the George R.R. Martin creation.
Lionsgate describes the movie:
Experience an unnerving Gothic tale of horror reuniting Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Kit Harington and featuring the Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden. Set in medieval England, Anne and her domineering mother-in-law Morwen struggle to survive on the outskirts of society. But when a man from Anne’s past returns from war, a curse begins to take shape through a mysterious knight and threatens to destroy them all.
Keeping Busy After Westeros
The Dreadful is far from being the first reunion between major Game of Thrones players, as Harington previously made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021’s Eternals, which starred his former Game of Thrones colleague Richard Madden. Sadly, the nature of that narrative prevented the pair from spending much time together on screen, though a post-credits scene teased that Harington’s character was set to become the super-powered Black Knight. In the years since that post-credits tease, though, it seems like that storyline won’t be paid off anytime soon, given the underwhelming critical and financial performance of the MCU movie.
Another project we likely won’t be seeing Harington in anytime soon is the rumored Jon Snow sequel series, which has seen starts and stops in development virtually ever since Game of Thrones ended. It’s currently in a “stop” phase, and Harington stars in the HBO series Industry, which will occupy him for the time being.
Turner, meanwhile, is prepping to enter into another franchise with an established following, as she’ll be playing Lara Croft in an upcoming Tomb Raider series for Prime Video. This was another project that was in development for years, and unlike the Jon Snow prequel, the stars aligned and the Tomb Raider series is ready to start shooting. Prime Video recently released a first official look at Turner as Croft.
