‘Game of Thrones’s Kit Harington Joins Mark Wahlberg’s ‘Family Plan’ Sequel

‘Game of Thrones’s Kit Harington Joins Mark Wahlberg’s ‘Family Plan’ Sequel

It looks like Jon Snow knows something after all — namely, what his next role will be. Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington has signed on to star alongside Mark Wahlberg in the sequel to his 2023 action comedy, The Family Plan.

In a new, exclusive report from Deadline, the Apple Original Films sequel is a follow-up to the most-watched film on Apple TV+ since its debut last year. According to Justin Kroll’s reporting, the new installment will be a holiday film, and:

Penned by David Coggeshall, The Family Plan sequel takes place at Christmas in Europe where Dan has planned the perfect vacation for the Morgans, but his past continues to haunt them in unexpected ways.

Unfortunately, specific details surrounding Harington’s character are being kept under wraps. One can only hope he’s playing the main antagonist or villain, as Harington’s comedy chops have been — up until this point — mostly under-utilized. Anyone who saw him play tennis opposite Andy Samberg in the Jake Szymanski-directed mockumentary, 7 Days in Hell, knows what’s up.

What Details Do We Know About ‘The Family Plan 2’ So Far?

Of course, Harington’s villain-y abilities were well on display during the most recent season of the buzzy HBO series, Industry. Harington joined the fold during the show’s most recent, third season, playing spoiled rich dingleberry, Henry Muck. It was a delightful play against type for the actor most well known for playing Westeros’ most noble man, Jon Snow. With Muck — a perfect last name choice, to be honest — Harington played the whiny egomaniac taking his company public with aplomb, deftly balancing the intense drama with the underlying humor and irony that comes with being one of Those Guys (we all know one). For someone who has, in some ways, struggled a bit to build a name for himself that isn’t synonymous with his Game of Thrones character, Harington’s time on Industry — coupled with these upcoming, new projects — may finally be ready to break away from the secret Targaryen that made him famous.

The Family Plan Review: Mark Walhberg Is in His Element as a Daddy Government Assassin

Don’t overthink this road trip romp, which trips over its action-comedy tropes but wins you over with its fun and breezy charm and enjoyable cast.

Wahlberg will produce the film in addition to starring in it. The sequel will be directed by Simon Cellan Jones and star Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Colletti, and Van Crosby. It is being produced for Skydance Media. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce for Skydance, alongside Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson through Municipal Pictures. John G. Scotti will also produce, and Cellan Jones is executive producing the film.

Wahlberg has also been keeping busy the past few years, making a number of family-friendly action films, including Me Time, Infinite, and the Tom Holland-starring video game adaptation, Uncharted. He also starred in the coming-of-age film Joe Hill, and Father Stu, the story of a boxer-turned-priest and all the lives he helped along the way towards his own personal redemption.

There is currently not a release date set for The Family Plan 2, but given Apple’s continued commitment to creating original films, it seems likely that this one will come out sooner rather than later. We’ll keep you updated with any additional details as they come through.
