Eddie Howe has one of the safest jobs in football: as the manager who ended our wait for silverware, on top of bringing Champions League football back to Tyneside, few would argue against giving the gaffer as long as he wanted in the dugout at St James’ Park.
It means, more importantly, that the club has stability, which can’t be said for a number of other teams in the Premier League currently going through managerial changes ahead of a huge summer transfer window for all 20 sides.
Brentford look set to lose Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur, who is lined up to take over from the sacked Ange Postecoglou.
But the Bees have begun to move quickly in their pursuit of a replacement, and a former Newcastle star (and captain!) is amongst the front runners to take charge of Brentford come August.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Brentford are eyeing up former Newcastle midfielder and current Burnley boss Scott Parker to be their next manager.
He reveals that the 44-year-old is on a three-man shortlist to replace Thomas Frank, with the Bees exploring the possibility of bringing him to West London despite him being happy at Turf Moor.
Having helped Burnley bounce straight back up from relegation to the Championship in the 23/24 season, Parker will be hoping that third time’s the charm in terms of Premier League managerial stints.
Previously, the former Toon skipper was manager of both Fulham and Bournemouth, helping each side enjoy promotion back to the top flight, but was relegated with Fulham and sacked by the Cherries after a notable 9-0 loss to Liverpool.
It would be an interesting move for Parker. Burnley of course face an uphill battle as a promoted side competing in the Premier League, but Brentford are set to lose their best player in Bryan Mbeumo; an unenviable situation for any incoming manager.

For Newcastle fans, we may want to pay attention to the ongoing managerial situations at Brentford and Burnley.
The Clarets of course own James Trafford, one of our top transfer targets this summer, so an unstable situation at Turf Moor could further inspire the 22-year-old to seek a move to St James’ Park.
The Bees meanwhile are a quiet force to be reckoned with in the Premier League, with one of our most humbling defeats of last season coming at the Gtech Community Stadium.
If Parker was to assume the role of manager at Brentford, would he still have the impact that Frank had? Would we better fancy our chances on the road against one of the league’s most difficult away grounds?
