For Good’ Official Trailer & Fans Love It

Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) are finally reunited after going their separate ways at the end of director Jon M. Chu’s must-see Wicked in 2024. Yes, the official Wicked: For Good trailer (below) has finally dropped, although it was a bizarre move for Universal Pictures to release the video at 9 p.m. EDT. Why drop the footage so late at night? Regardless of the reason, the nearly three-minutes-worth of footage begins with the two iconic friends meeting in the shadows, before Elphaba begins chanting out an all-important spell heard while she sings “No Good Deed,” which originally debuted in the hit Broadway show.

Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) seems certain that Elphaba won’t remain hidden for long because Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) is hot on the Wicked Witch’s trail. Little does Morrible know, unlike fans of the Broadway show, Fiyero’s allegiance ultimately lies with the green-skinned heroine, who holds a very special place in his heart — and his brain. Fiyero’s true feelings for Elphaba are even revealed in the official Wicked: For Good trailer, and that spoiler might actually surprise those who only saw the 2024 film and not the original musical. Thankfully, though, Fiyero’s true Wizard of Oz identity is still a secret from those who only watched the movie as that juicy tidbit was not given away in the trailer.

Fans Love the ‘Wicked: For Good’ Trailer

Movie lovers were given a sneak peek of the new Wicked: For Good trailer before the footage finally dropped on the night of June 4. However, while the preview video did feature Elphaba’s truly wicked sister, Nessa (Marissa Bode), the official trailer didn’t give anything away in terms of the more integral role she portrays in the conclusion of Wicked. However, there was still plenty for the fans to pick apart, and one YouTuber noticed something quite remarkable and quite spoiler-ish in the trailer. @09samplys wrote in the comments:

“Madam Morrible caused the tornado that brought Dorothy here!?!? THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE.”

Many social media users couldn’t help but be moved by Ariana Grande’s rendition of the Wicked song “For Good,” and @drewhanks851 perhaps put it best when the user wrote:

“As soon as Ariana started singing For Good, the tears started pouring!”

@kenziebear9639 added:

“I’M ALREADY CRYING AND IT’S ONLY THE TRAILER!!”

Despite the Wicked: For Good trailer’s late release window at 9 p.m. EDT, nearly one million fans viewed the video in its first hour online alone. Splitting up Wicked into two feature films was quite a risky move by Universal Pictures and director Jon M. Chu, but judging from the new footage, and the internet’s reaction to it, Wicked: For Good is going to be another smash hit when it drops in theaters this November. @Aaron-eh4wq rightly points out by writing in the comments:

“All the people who complained about this masterpiece being split into two parts owe Jon M. Chu an apology!”

@starforestrocks added:

“It’s been a good bit since a trailer made me feel something in my ribs. In my heart. And in my soul. A story for the ages. A story for the world right now.”

Wicked: For Good opens in cinemas, including 3D and IMAX formats, just in time for Thanksgiving on November 21. Meanwhile, those who want to relive Elphaba and Glinda’s magical meeting can stream Wicked on Peacock at the time of this writing before Wicked: For Good soars to what will surely be the same box office success or even more than its incredible predecessor: Wicked made a staggering $755.2 million worldwide during its theatrical release.
