Apple TV+ isn’t exactly known for its gripping crime thrillers, but all that could change come September thanks to the release of The Savant, a new eight-part series that explores an undercover investigator’s efforts to thwart a terrorist attack. Based on the first trailer for the series, it appears as if fans are in for a huge treat later this year, as it looks like nothing but compelling drama and nail-biting suspense from start to finish. The best part? It stars Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain.
Opening with Chastain’s character and her family looking to get away for a relaxing weekend, the tone quickly shifts into overdrive as we watch her settle down at her computer to infiltrate various hate groups looking to cause nothing but chaos and destruction. Things really heat up as the trailer delves deeper into the heart of the series, and showcases all the action and drama that’s to come when The Savant makes its debut on September 26. The best line comes at the 1:40 mark, when Chastain mentions that the villains are out to make a statement, and when asked what kind, she replies, “The kind that history refers to with a month and a date.” If that’s not a chilling reference to 9/11, we don’t know what is. Check out the trailer and brief synopsis for The Savant below.
“The tense and high-stakes thriller follows an undercover investigator known as ‘The Savant’ as she infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act. Alongside Chastain, The Savant also stars Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste and guest star Pablo Schreiber.”
