A new look at The Fantastic Four: First Steps confirms that Marvel fans have nothing to worry about when it comes to the MCU film being faithful to the source material. Marvel Studios has somehow adapted the very first cover of the original 1961 Fantastic Four comic with striking accuracy, including a giant, monstrous foe that the superhero team will have to defeat.
A new Little Caesars TV spot for Fantastic Four features Giganto, a giant green monster that is under the control of Mole Man, who is rumored to be the character that Paul Walter Hauser is playing. The comic-accurate design is taken straight out of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four #1. He even has the white eyes, which are often used in the hand-drawn medium but left out in live-action adaptations. The new teaser is another testament of Marvel Studios’ determination to get their First Family right, especially when it comes to adapting the brilliantly wacky source material. Speculation is mounting about who will play the fan-favorite mutant character in the MCU.
Although Giganto’s appearance in The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been rumored for quite some time, not all the footage released will be in the final version of the film. According to an official statement by Disney, the commercial was “written and produced by our internal team” and directed by the film’s production designer, Kasra Farahani. Of course, this likely means that the parts of the new advertisement which specifically reference the pizza company are not in the actual film.
It is still not clear how significant Giganto is in Fantastic Four, especially since the superhero team already has to contend with Mole Man, Silver Surfer, and Galactus. More likely than not, Giganto is only a part of an early action sequence as an homage to the original comic that started it all. However, if Mole Man is as important as many suspect him to be, perhaps Giganto has a bigger role to play than a glorified cameo.
