First released back in 2000, Final Fantasy IX marked the ninth installment in the beloved Final Fantasy franchise by Square Enix, and is widely regarded as one of the most popular. Re-released in 2010 as a PlayStation Classic on the PlayStation Store, Final Fantasy IX also became the subject of an enhanced port in 2016.
However, it seems as though Square Enix is not yet done with celebrating Final Fantasy IX, as a brand-new release is arriving almost 30-years on from its original launch, and it arrives this April.
Final Fantasy 9 Is Back… With House Grooves
In a reveal that none of us saw coming, Square Enix has unveiled its latest Final Fantasy IX release, and it comes in the form of a House Grooves playlist. Yes, you read that correctly.
FINAL FANTASY IX’s story comes alive on the dance floor. A house‑style reimagining packed with deep‑bass that shakes our soul.
Available in CD form, FINAL FANTASY IX – House Grooves is now available to pre-order with an estimated April shipping window. Featuring a house-style version of the Final Fantasy IX playlist, players will be able to relive their journey of the 2000 classic that “made us rethink what it means to live.” Thanks to nostalgic, yet powerful melodies, this recreation of FFIX’s most iconic tracks have been recrafted “and immersed in the rich echoes of deep house music”.
With tracks such as “Danger in the Forest” to “A Place to Call Home,” avid fans will be pleased to learn that all the original bangers are back, albeit with a slightly louder twist thanks to the contribution of artists such as SEQUENCE / Lonely Boy / DJ Synthesizer / Kai Saruwatari / Andreas Saag / Giom / Terry McGowan / Christian Dinh Gulino / Ai Kakihira / Chocoholic / Haioka / Pam feat. Community Resolution.
We’re Never Getting That Remake, Are We?
The launch of FINAL FANTASY IX – House Grooves is all well and good, but it is just another reminder that, other than the enhanced port back in 2016, we are not going to be receiving an official remake anytime soon. Just days ago, over on r/FinalFantasy, one user asked us if we “still believe” in a Final Fantasy IX remake, adding, “It’s been a while since it was revealed in that Nvidia leak. It’s passed the “25th anniversary celebration” and…..nothing. Do you still believe it exists? Do you think it was silently canceled? Or are you convinced it never existed?”
Despite the leak and the hopes and dreams of fans, Square Enix is still yet to announce the development of a Final Fantasy IX remake, adding it to the long list of entries that are desperate for a makeover for modern platforms. However, not all is lost, as surely this house music CD is guaranteed to quench fan’s expectations. Surely.
