Federico Chiesa not injured despite Champions League absence – Latest Liverpool FC News – Liverpool FC

Liverpool have had the date confirmed for their Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace, while there was a surprise absence from Liverpool’s travelling squad to face Galatasaray.

Today’s Main LFC Headline

Despite being added to the Champions League squad in place of Giovanni Leoni, after the defender was ruled out for the season having torn his ACL, Federico Chiesa has not travelled to Turkiye.

The Italian trained as normal on Monday morning, but he wasn’t included in the travelling squad to play in the Champions League against Galatasaray.

This Is Anfield understands his absence is not injury-related nor is there any known issue regarding his late registration with UEFA.

We should learn more as to why he is missing in Arne Slot‘s pre-match press conference on Monday evening.

Also not in the squad is Trey Nyoni, who will play instead in the UEFA Youth League, and Jayden Danns who injured his hamstring playing for the under-21s on Saturday.

Liverpool FC: On this day

On this day in 1981, the great Bill Shankly passed away aged 68 at Broadgreen Hospital, not far from his home in West Derby.

Shankly arrived at the club in 1959 and instilled a change in culture that exists to this day at Liverpool FC.

During his time, he initiated an unmatched dynasty in English football and won three league titles, the UEFA Cup and two FA Cups of his own.

He died just seven years after retiring from his role as manager. If it weren’t for Shankly, Liverpool wouldn’t be the behemoth they are today.
