While he initially may have been able to charm some partners and dazzle people, his actions were unforgivable, and he was ultimately captured and sent to live out his days in prison for his despicable crimes.
But along the way, Joe managed to discretely dispose of a couple dozen victims. Of course, he may have had a few more kills that happened off-screen, and there are kills that can be disputed as being indirectly caused by Joe, but for this list, we are looking specifically at the kills Joe performed in a direct approach.
Joe’s First Kill Was His Own Father
Joe’s Kill Streak Began At An Early Age
When Joe was a child, his mother was forced to partake in sex work to support him, and she had a string of abusive boyfriends. However, Joe’s father was a particularly violent character who severely hurt both Joe and his mother, Sandy. Eventually, while still just a boy, Joe found himself in a position where he was aiming a gun at his father, and he shot him in the chest, killing him. This started Joe on a long and difficult road that would include many more deaths along the way.
Benji Stood In The Way Of Joe’s Relationship With Beck
Beck Had An Attachment To Benji
Benji was an ex of Beck who appeared to still have a hold on her, which Joe was unhappy with. In order to get Benji off the board, Joe kidnapped and trapped Benji in the cage beneath the bookstore. Initially, he acquires more details about Beck from Benji, but Joe also took offense to the way Benji talked about Beck. Despite Benji sharing an incriminating video of himself as a way to barter for his freedom, Joe gave him a coffee laced with peanut oil, which Benji was severely allergic to.

The pair fought and manipulated Beck against each other, but eventually, Joe broke into her family home, and got into a situation where Peach and Joe fought until he eventually overpowered her and killed her.

Guinevere Beck was the object of Joe’s obsession in You season 1. However, she was unpredictable, and Joe struggled to mold her into what he wanted. And when Beck began to see the darker side of Joe, she pulled further and further away. Joe trapped her in the cage, and essentially signed her death warrant. However, she came incredibly close to escaping when she fooled Joe that she was grateful for his strict treatment, but thanks to Joe having a spare key in the cage, he got out, and killed Beck.
Ellie Was At Risk With Henderson, So Joe Handled It
Hendy’s Death Was Kind Of An Accident
In season 2, Joe finds himself feeling protective over his teenage neighbor, Ellie Alves. And when Ellie is manipulated by a comedian with dark intentions, Joe stays close to ensure Ellie is not taken advantage of. However, Joe then needs to handle Henderson, and in a struggle between the two, he throws him down the stairs to Henderson’s basement, which causes him to hit his head against the wall at force and be killed instantly.
Love Quinn Came Close To Killing Joe, But He Overpowered Her
Love Had A Dark Side Of Her Own
Love Quinn and Joe struck up an intense relationship in You season 2, which led to the pair getting married and moving in together in season 3. However, despite Love embracing every part of Joe, including his dark side, Joe found her dark side repellent. And when Joe began to turn his attentions elsewhere, Love was ready to kill him, the same way she killed her last husband. However, Joe managed to get the upper hand and kill Love first.

In reality, Rhys never knew Joe, but despite this, Joe kidnaps and murders the real Rhys in an effort to bring the imagined one into the light. This leads to Joe embracing his dark side, and by far the darkest season of You.

Clayton Was Desperate To Get Revenge On Beck’s Killer
You season 5 brings Joe’s story full circle in several ways, including bringing Joe back to New York, and seeing him kill the son of Dr. Nicky, the man he framed as Beck’s killer. Clayton was part of a group that had their suspicions about Joe being a serial killer, and Dr. Nicky being wrongly convicted. With his father’s reputation on the line, Clayton was by far the most desperate to prove Joe’s guilt, but when Bronte begins to believe Joe, she is grateful when he steps in to protect her, and violently kills Clayton.
You season 5 brings Joe’s story full circle in several ways.

Joe Had A Lot More Blood On His Hands
Over the course of the series, Joe kills many other minor characters, with most becoming an obstacle in his obsessions, but beyond that, Joe is feeding his dark side. These range from nameless police officers, to ex-boyfriends, and in-laws
- Elijah Thornton – A music producer who had an affair with Joe’s girlfriend, Candace, who was pushed off the top of a tall building.
- Ron Baker – Ron was a neighbor of Joe who appeared in season 1 of You. He abused his girlfriend and her son, Paco, which led to Joe killing Ron by stabbing him in the neck.
- Jasper Krenn – Jasper was a criminal hunting down a man who traded identities with Joe, though when he came to collect money from Joe, Joe stabbed and killed him.
- Ryan Goodwin – Ryan was an abusive ex to Marienne, and Joe decided to kill him to free Marienne from his influence. While he had a careful, meticulous plan to deal with Ryan, Joe had to adjust, and ended up stabbing him many times in front of a parking lot.
- Malcolm Harding – Malcolm was Kate’s cheating ex, and Joe killed him without any knowledge of his actions due to his fragile mental state.
- Simon Soo – Simon was a part of the wealthy elite group that Joe targeted as the “Eat the Rich” killer.
- Vic – Vic was Phoebe’s bodyguard, and he became suspicious of Joe, though when confronted, Joe strangled him and dumped his body in Simon’s grave.
- Gemma Graham-Greene – Joe slashed her throat. She was another victim of the “Eat the Rich” killer.
- Tom Lockwood – Kate’s father, Joe, suffocated Tom to death, then blamed the murder on his bodyguard.
- Hugo McNamara – Tom’s bodyguard, was actually murdered by Joe protecting his employer. Joe stabbed him to death.
- Edward – Framed as the “Eat the Rich” killer by Joe, Eddie had his throat slashed by Joe.
- Robert “Buffalo Bob” Cain – After trying to get Kate kicked out of her company, Kate asks Joe to kill Uncle Bob, and Joe gladly strangles him and frames it as suicide.
- Reagan Lockwood-Jacobs – Reagan had a vendetta against Kate, and also Joe’s son, which led to Joe trapping her in his cage with her sister, and forcing her twin sister Maddie to kill her.
- Dane Robinson – After Joe was exonerated, Dane became radicalized, and tried to kidnap Bronte. Joe vengefully stabbed Dane to death, despite Bronte deciding to let him go free.
- An Unnamed Police Officer – The police arrived when Joe was hunting down Bronte, and he killed an officer to avoid capture, though he was unable to get away.
All together, Joe’s kill count adds up to 23 individuals over the course of five seasons of You.
