HBO Max might have changed its name yet again, but that doesn’t mean it’s changing the kinds of shows it offers subscribers next month. With plenty of series strictly for adults, there are also a few that could easily be enjoyed by the whole family. Whether you like docuseries, mockumentaries, or superheroes, you’ll find something worthwhile in August.

While there might not be any heavy hitters like House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, or Euphoria heading to HBO Max next month, there are still plenty of series to enjoy. Those who recently saw Superman in theaters will want to check out a returning superhero series that takes place after the events of James Gunn’s latest film. Here are some of the new and returning shows you’ll want to add to your watchlist.

‘The Yogurt Shop Murders’ (Docuseries)

The Yogurt Shop Murders is a true crime docuseries that chronicles the tragic murder of four teenage girls at a yogurt shop in Austin, Texas, on December 6, 1991. The series explores the extensive trauma experienced by the city and the family members of the victims, many of whom still carry it with them today.

In a case that rocked the city, investigators pursued numerous suspects, but no one was ever charged. To this day, the case remains unsolved. The series interviews family members, the police officers who led the investigation, journalists, lawyers, and many more connected to the brutal murders. The Yogurt Shop Murders is streaming on August 3.

‘Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills’ (Season 1)

Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills is the latest edition of HBO’s beloved Hard Knocks series. This time, the show follows the Bills during their 2025 training camp at St. John Fisher University in Pittsford, New York. Equipped with microphones during their practices, the series offers viewers a candid look inside the team’s dynamics that fans of the sport always appreciate. With quarterback Josh Allen leading the team and the rambunctious Bills Mafia cheering them on, the Buffalo Bills will undoubtedly do everything they can to advance to the Super Bowl this season. Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills is streaming on August 5.

‘Mammals’ (Season 1)

Mammals is a BBC docuseries that explores the various mammals scattered all across the planet. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, the series showcases the ingenuity of mammals and examines the wonder of their continued success on every continent and in every ocean. Having conquered it all, from frozen landscapes to blistering deserts, mammals are everywhere around the globe. A six-part series, each episode delves into the myriad environments where mammals reside and highlights how they’ve survived in some of the most extreme conditions. Mammals Season 1 is streaming on August 17.

‘Peacemaker’ (Season 2)

A Max Original, Peacemaker is a superhero series that follows Chris Smith (John Cena), a jingoistic mercenary known as Peacemaker. Based on characters from DC Comics, the show’s first season served as a spin-off of The Suicide Squad, which was set in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). However, the show’s second season now takes place in the DC Universe (DCU) and is part of the overall soft reboot of the DC characters.

‘Abbott Elementary’ (Season 4)

Abbott Elementary is a hilarious mockumentary sitcom that follows the teachers at a predominantly Black public school, Willard R. Abbott Elementary School, in Philadelphia. Underfunded and mismanaged, conditions at the elementary school aren’t always the easiest to navigate. Nevertheless, optimistic teacher Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) and her colleagues always do their best to improve the lives of their students. Consistently delivering the laughs, the series includes performances by Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and William Stanford Davis. Abbott Elementary Season 4 is streaming on August 23.
