Revival rumors seemed to have sparked a surge in viewership for Emily Deschanel’s beloved 12-season crime series.
There is nothing official to report about persistent talk of Bones season 13 happening, but there’s no doubt about the show’s ongoing popularity as it surges onto Netflix’s international top 10 TV shows chart for February 3, 2023.
The police procedural starring Deschanel as forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan is especially popular in Cyprus, Kenya, Latvia, New Caledonia, Reunion, Israel, and South Africa, cracking the top five in all six markets.
Netflix subscribers in the U.S. are unfortunately out of luck as Bones is not currently available on the streamer in North America. However, the show can be streamed or purchased via multiple other services, including Hulu, Peacock, Philo, YouTube TV, Fandango, and Apple TV.
Bones originally aired on Fox from 2005 until 2017. Last year’s 20th anniversary of the show’s premiere sparked a new round of speculation about the possibility it could return for season 13, perhaps on a streamer like Netflix.
Deschanel herself addressed such talk in a March 2025 interview, indicating that while she is completely in the dark about Bones’ future, she would be happy to play Temperance Brennan again (via CBR):
“People talk about potentially rebooting the show in some way,” Deschanel said. “It is the 20th anniversary this year, so it’d be fun to do something for that, but I don’t know. I’m not in charge of such things, but I’d be down for it.”
Deschanel’s Bones co-star David Boreanaz has also expressed interest in coming back for season 13, talking in an August 2024 interview about why he thinks rebooting the show would not be a difficult challenge from a storytelling standpoint (via TVInsider).
“I mean, it’s an easy one to do because it’s so fun. It’s not like, really, what are you going to do with it? It’s just a lot of heart.”
Bones creator Hart Hanson confirmed that there has been ongoing, though perhaps informal, discussion about bringing the series back, revealing in a July 2023 interview that he and the other creatives keep in touch (via Variety).
“We are in contact with each other. Everybody on ‘Bones’ is in contact with each other. At separate times, it’s like, ‘What are you doing? What’s the availability?’”
ScreenRant has previously weighed in on the possibility of a Bones reboot, one perhaps focusing on the show’s 447 mystery, discussing how season 13 could successfully resolve that particular storyline after the season 12 finale “botched” the job.
“Frustratingly, there was never a good resolution to the mystery,” the article offered. “The only mention of it in the finale comes when Brennan packs a clock in her bag, which has stopped at 4:47, the same time when the Jeffersonian lab was bombed.”
The article continued, “That is an important time, but it’s hardly the mind-blowing reveal that most fans were hoping for.”
