Alien: Earth Season 2 remains unconfirmed as of this moment, but series creator Noah Hawley has teased where a second installment of the sci-fi horror show might go. Though the series was an interesting addition to the main Alien canon, producers have stayed silent about a possible renewal. It’s still early to speculate, but Hawley is already sharing what part of the story he’s interested in exploring. It gets very, very interesting.
While talking to Empire Magazine about Alien: Earth, Hawley broke his silence about that exciting last line of dialogue in the season finale. Wendy, the leader of the “Lost Boys,” now leads a pack of synthetics who have taken over the facilities run by Prodigy CEO Boy Kavalier. Season 2 would surely follow the story of the children facing Weyland-Yutani, as the opposing company is trying to take over the research island. The children are strong, but according to Hawley, they have “problems” nonetheless. The Fargo showrunner also added the subplot he wants to dig deep into, and it is one that definitely felt half-cooked in Season 1:
“That moment of, ‘Now we rule,’ is such an exhilarating moment for the audience. And then the question is… Well, it was an exhilarating moment when Dustin Hoffman ran out of the church, and they got on the bus [in The Graduate]. But what comes after? The [Weyland-Yutani] ships are coming and all they have is problems.
“I’m interested in exploring the corporate politics of it. As we’ve seen, there’s an irresistible gravitational pull toward monopoly that corporations and billionaires have. There’s a bit of Game of Thrones to the corporate world that feels interesting to me.”
‘Alien: Earth’ Season 2 Is Unconfirmed, But Hawley Already Knows What Story To Tell
It is still undecided whether FX will approve another season of Noah Hawley’s unique take on the Alien franchise. Season 1 had a good critical reception, though some viewers felt it was an unworthy addition to the universe created by Ridley Scott in 1979. At the moment, it sits at 94% on the critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience score has a rating of 66%.
Alien: Earth star Sydney Chandler recently said she doesn’t have a clue about her character’s future. However, per Hawley’s comments to Empire, it is safe to assume that if Alien: Earth Season 2 gets made, he could explore a storyline outside the main narrative of the children while staying true to his initial concept:
“I do think this story of these children’s autonomy continues to be the heart of the show, but Alien is always about levels of containment. The island is a level of containment, and what happens when you expand past that level? Ultimately, the show is called Alien: Earth. I know that, given the canon, I can’t blow up the Earth, but I do think that containment is going to be very hard to maintain.
“Because it’s a story about humanity trapped between nature that’s trying to kill us and the technology we’ve created that also seems to be trying to kill us, that feels a lot like the world that I live in. And so I feel like there’s a lot there to really grapple with.”
