Doomsday Story Details Ahead Of Loki’s MCU Return

Tom Hiddleston has some interesting thoughts about Avengers: Doomsday, sharing what audiences should expect from the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Hiddleston’s original Loki was killed by Thanos early in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. A year later, Endgame debuted a new Loki variant, which went on to lead one of the MCU’s best TV shows, Disney+’s Loki, for two seasons.

That version of the character went through quite the journey, playing a key role in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga as its new protector. First, Loki slowly unraveled the mystery of Kang the Conqueror and his many variants. Then, the hero became the character in charge of keeping the multiversal strands safe, serving as the MCU’s God of Stories. Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast reveal confirmed Loki’s return.

Speaking to British GQ, Tom Hiddleston teased Avengers: Doomsday‘s story. The actor confirmed that he has already finished shooting Loki’s role in the MCU movie, before delving into what he thinks of the script. According to Hiddleston, “The centre of the story is absolutely brilliant.” The Loki actor also claimed that Avengers: Doomsday does something surprising that has never been seen before.

So far, Marvel Studios has yet to reveal what role Loki will play in the MCU movie. The character was not featured in the first two Avengers: Doomsday teasers released in theaters with screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Instead, the first trailer confirmed Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers, while the second trailer focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and his adoptive daughter, Love.

Given the fact that Thor got a solo teaser, the God of Thunder’s Avengers: Doomsday role should be big. That helps boost Loki’s chances of playing a major role in the MCU movie in two ways. On the one hand, Thor was praying to Odin for protection against a new enemy, and as the protector of the multiverse, Loki could keep his brother safe.

10 MCU Characters Most Likely To Die In Marvel’s 2026 Projects

The MCU has major movies and TV shows to release in 2026, and with villains like Doctor Doom entering the picture, these characters could die soon.

On the other hand, the two characters are apparently fighting in the same team in the film. At a Disney event in Italy in early December, Captain America’s Avengers team was seemingly revealed. The superhero team includes Sam Wilson, Thor, Loki, Shang-Chi, Falcon, and Ant-Man. Hiddleston has yet to address whether he will be part of said Avengers team.

There are still two more Avengers: Doomsday teasers left to be released in theaters. As such, the chances remain for a first look at Loki in the next Avengers movie before a full trailer later in 2026. If that does not happen, the Super Bowl, on February 8, and San Diego Comic-Con 2026, in July, could release the full Avengers: Doomsday trailer with Loki.
