Dominik Szoboszlai had debate raging over his place in the side after Florian Wirtz‘s arrival, but his pre-season showings have shown fans he’s not easily displaced from the XI.
Arne Slot has no shortage of elite options throughout his midfield and forward line, creating fresh competition and debate over who will fit into his strongest XI.
For some, it has seen Szoboszlai miss out, and for others he’s indispensable, with the latter a prominent talking point after his display against Athletic Club in the second match at Anfield.
He played deeper in midfield before shifting to right-back late on, highlighting the versatility that can be seen as both a curse and a blessing – for Slot it is firmly the latter.
After his 90-minute display, though, the No. 8 had fans underlining that he cannot be underestimated in the season ahead.
We take Szoboszlai and Gravenberch for granted. They’re elite, looks like they’re ready to go again

Szoboszlai has been nothing short of impressive recently. Midfield headaches incoming

Szoboszlai qualities and potential is incredible. Can’t take him out of this side. Actually, if there is an emergency at CB, best to deputize. His profile and ability would help there.

Szoboszlai wears the number 8 for a reason… He’s a fantastic player and if you think he’ll be a squad player you’re delusional

I hope everyone has clocked that Dom Szoboszlai performance tonight, looks unreal in the 8. He’s going to be so important for us this season #LFC #LFCAthletic

“Fans might be delighted watching the new signings but I was delighted seeing Szobo getting his best position 8 like Wijnaldum and Gravenberg before him, he maybe the new CM signing for us and he’s class.” – King MJ in TIA comments.
Honestly, I think Szoboszlai may be the player that impressed me most all preseason.
Doesn’t matter whether it was the 8, 6 or at RB, the engine he provided was top. Can’t underestimate his usefulness this season.

Szoboszlai is going to be absolutely sensational this season. I can feel it in my water.

If you don’t rate Dominik Szoboszlai and his value for Liverpool, then I can’t take you seriously to be honest.
I could write a dissertation on his strengths, his value IP/OOP & what a Rolls Royce footballer/athlete he is.
He’s an absolute genius.

That period when Grandpa Schmadtke was around wasn’t too bad. Endo, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai are his signings.

Much to like about this Liverpool team. On the whole, very quick, slick and sharp. Wirtz a ridiculous talent. Salah, Gakpo and Szoboszlai relentless. Frimpong and Kerkez both full of pace. Ngumoha a hugely exciting prospect. Another centre-back needed, however.

Think Szoboszlai is looking amazing in the deeper role. Really opens up more midfield rotations and keeps a few people a little fresher hopefully.

It has been a positive pre-season so far for Szoboszlai, who seems intent on eradicating any notion that he does not belong in Liverpool’s first-choice XI.
He does the grunt work in the middle of the pitch, and even in a friendly contest his effort levels were unwavering both in midfield and defence late on.
The deeper role asks more of him in possession but so far, as he did at the backend of last season, he has shown he can link the play ahead of him and cover his team on the break when required.
Liverpool relied heavily on his industry last season, and you expect it will be a similar tale this time around. It is not often headline-worthy, but successful teams are built on players like Szoboszlai.
