Recently, director Neil Marshall sadly revealed that, despite years of trying, the long-awaited action horror sequel Dog Soldiers 2 is not going to happen. But fear not werewolf fans! Marshall’s time with the classic movie monsters is now over! After revealing the bad news about Dog Soldiers, the filmmaker declared that he is now working on another action horror outing involving lycanthropes: The Werewolves of London.
Marshall took to Instagram to reveal the first details about the project, which is now in (very) early development, showing off the first artwork from the film as well as the deliciously tantalizing tagline, “Grow your hair. Howl at the moon. Devour human flesh. The things we do for love.” Check out what Marshall had to say about the movie below.
“Since I dropped such a clanger last night, I thought I’d give fans a little moonlight at the end of the tunnel today… While I do not have the rights to make a Dog Soldiers sequel, there’s nothing to stop me making another werewolf movie…. Which is exactly what I intend to do. It’s early days and I’m not giving away any plot details just yet, the plan is to bring as many of the original team back for this as possible, and then all we need is the money to make it!“
‘Dog Soldiers 2’ Not Happening, Says Neil Marshall: “I’m Sorry. We Tried. We Really Did.”
Released way back in 2002, Dog Soldiers was directed and edited by Neil Marshall in his directorial debut, and stars Sean Pertwee, Kevin McKidd, Emma Cleasby and Liam Cunningham. The movie follows a small squad of British soldiers during a routine nighttime training mission in the Scottish Highlands. But, the group instead find themselves alone and battling werewolves. Without transport or communications, the group is forced to retreat to a farmhouse to wait for the full moon to disappear at dawn.

The Gothic monsters are back in fashion. We look at six new werewolf movies that are scheduled for release this year and next.
The initial plan was for Dog Soldiers to spawn a trilogy, with the next installment titled Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat, but after trying to get the follow-up off the ground for several years, Marshall has now stated that negotiations have not gone the way they wanted.
“Unfortunately these negotiations came to a sudden and unexpected halt when, earlier this year, we were due to finalize and sign the agreements and….they disappeared. Vanished. Cut off all communication. Refuse to answer emails or calls. Why, you ask. I don’t know why. That’s the point. We simply don’t know what happened or why, but the end result is that we don’t have the rights to make a sequel without this deal in place, thus rendering it effectively dead. I’m sorry. We tried. We really did. And in Chris Figg’s case spent a lot of money on legal fees doing so. We wanted this for you. For all the countless fans who’ve asked for it. But in the end, perhaps it’s just not meant to be. The original film was lightning in a bottle, and perhaps lightning doesn’t, and in some cases shouldn’t, strike twice. So there it is…”
