Demi Moore is Saying No to One Thing as Scripts Pour In Following ‘The Substance’

Demi Moore is enjoying a career resurgence at the moment. On Jan. 5, the actress took home a Golden Globe for her exceptional performance in the body horror satire The Substance, a role that also garnered Moore her first Academy Award nomination. Script offers are reportedly rolling in, but Moore has the clout to be choosy, and there’s one aspect she’s choosing not to say yes to anymore: baring all in a movie.

The Daily Mail reports that sources close to Moore say she’s done with nudity, at least for now. An exclusive source told the publication:

“Many of the scripts coming in require her to bare her body again… But she’s not so sure if she wants to do it again. Demi believes there comes a time when you need to just say no. If the most amazing script comes her way and there’s a nude scene, she’ll negotiate just how much she is willing to reveal.”

Many have praised Moore’s bravery in baring it all for the film, a fact the source echoes, noting that the 62-year-old actress is proud of her body, but that the nudity required in The Substance made her feel “vulnerable:”

“The fact is she was very brave to do it in her sixties, but it was for a project she 100% believed in… At the same time, she felt very vulnerable. It’s doubtful she’ll do it again, despite the fact she’s really proud of her body.”

Moore herself expressed many of these sentiments during a press interview at the Cannes Film Festival last year, not only about the nudity, but the role overall.

“Going into it, it was really spelled out — the level of vulnerability and rawness that was really required to tell the story. And it was a very vulnerable experience and just required a lot of sensitivity and a lot of conversation about what we were trying to accomplish.”

Prior to ‘The Substance,’ Moore Was Ready to Leave Hollywood For Good

With all the accolades and praise Moore has already received for The Substance, the Oscar nomination is considered one of the highest honors in Hollywood. And while it would be a feather in her cap to actually win the award, as the saying goes, “it’s an honor just to be nominated.” And to think, Moore was considering walking away from acting for good prior to receiving filmmaker Coralie Fargeat’s script.

It may also be Margaret Qualley’s finest turn thus far, alongside a maniacal Dennis Quaid in this retro-future delight that will turn all the heads.

And it’s not just Moore with an Oscar nod under her belt. The film received five nominations overall, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original screenplay (Moore’s co-star Margaret Qualley was notably snubbed). The Substance was recently re-released back into theaters to help in its Oscar race. It’s also available to stream on the indie film platform MUBI, which also distributed the film.
