DC Officially Reveals Lobo Design For Jason Momoa’s Supergirl Debut

Supergirl finally reveals Lobo in the DC Universe franchise. 2025 is almost over, but as DC Studios is getting ready for the DCU to continue in 2026, Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El will be taking the spotlight next summer.

As the Supergirl teaser trailer has officially been released, the world not only got a first taste of the Kryptonian heroine’s solo adventure, but also a full look at Jason Momoa’s upcoming DCU debut, playing the famous bounty hunter, Lobo. Check it out below:

Lobo being part of the Supergirl story was revealed in December 2024, prior to principal photography starting. The DCU entry, which was directed by Craig Gillespie, finished shooting in May 2025.

Momoa is no stranger to the DC brand, as he portrayed Aquaman in the DCEU movie timeline, starting in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as both versions of Justice League. The Game of Thrones alum also headlined his own DC films, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom being the final film in the previous continuity.

With Momoa being part of the Supergirl cast, Warner Bros. is finally succeeding with bringing Lobo to the big screen after years of the studio trying to have the bounty hunter in his own solo project. Filmmakers like Guy Ritchie, Brad Peyton, and Michael Bay have previously been attached to try to direct a film for the antihero.

While short-lived, Lobo was a key player in Krypton season 2, as Emmett J. Scanlan portrayed him in SYFY’s Superman prequel. A spinoff show was also in development, but once the original series was cancelled, the offshoot was also scrapped.

It’s currently unknown how Lobo will fit into the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” after Momoa’s debut in Supergirl. However, the star shared with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan earlier this year that he hopes to stay with this character for a good while:

Jason Momoa: Well, this is the role I’ve always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I’m really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It’s pretty big. I don’t want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I’ll say the bike’s really cool.

Ash Crossan: Do you think we’ll be hanging out with him for a while?

Jason Momoa: I hope so. I hope so. I hope so. It’s her movie, so it’s great. I just come in for a little bit.

Alcock’s movie, which was written by Ana Nogueira, is based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, from Tom King and Bilquis Evely. While the 8-issue series didn’t feature him in it, King revealed in February 2023 that the original plans for the book were a team-up between Kara and Lobo:

Tom King: That book began as me pitching a Lobo/Supergirl book, and it was my editor[s], Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, who were like ‘No, take Lobo out and make Supergirl the Rooster Cogburn character.’ And so it wouldn’t exist without Jamie and Brittany.

DC Studios’ Supergirl opens on June 26, 2026.
