Dark Souls 3 Remaster Leaves Gamers Torn, And We Can See Why

Dark Souls 3 still stands as one of the best examples of FromSoftware’s unique formula, striking the perfect balance with players who continue to return to the game all these years later.

It served as the conclusion to one of the most consistently impressive trilogies of all time, providing an immense challenge and engrossing story beats for the community to lock into. As such, it’s little surprise that talks have turned to the potential of a remaster, but it’s proving to be much more of a divisive issue than you might expect.

Is A Dark Souls 3 Remaster Needed?

We are very much in the remake and remaster era of video games, as technology allows developers to rejuvenate older titles much more easily than they’ve ever been able to before. Some projects receive the universal agreement of their respective communities; the 2015 Resident Evil remaster is a good example, but others are a little more controversial.

Over on Reddit, one player shared some additional information on the potential remaster of Dark Souls 3, and it’s safe to say that fans aren’t convinced that we need one at all.

“I really don’t know what I’d get out of a DS3 remaster other than the PVP getting rejuvenated for a bit. But I guess it’d be good for new players,” one comment read.

“It doesn’t need a remaster, but it is my favorite game of all time so it’s day one for me,” another added.

A third wanted new features or it simply won’t appeal, saying, “If they added crossplay I’d get it immediately. Otherwise I think I’ll just stick with the OG.”

There are many who would argue that it isn’t even the prime candidate from the Dark Souls roster for a remaster, if one were to happen, with many favoring the oft-maligned second game in the series.

We’d Rather Have New FromSoftware Games

The fact is that remasters and remakes are only likely to get you so far with the fans, and the thing that they really want is exciting new releases. Bethesda are the most obvious example of this, with the Oblivion remaster proving very popular, but not really dampening calls for more news on the next games in the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series.

The same is true here, and FromSoftware simply need to bring another game to players to quieten down chatter about their existing slate of releases. Fortunately, one is on the way in The Duskbloods, so let’s hope that delivers in all the ways we were hoping and we can forget about Dark Souls 3 for a while now.
