Daniel Craig Reacts to ‘Knives Out’ Parody With Muppets Ahead of ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ Netflix Streaming Release

Daniel Craig is enjoying the fantastic reviews of his latest Knives Out movie, Wake Up Dead Man, which will be released on Netflix on December 12. However, the actor is now a little worried about his future as detective Benoit Blanc after being shown the recent Sesame Street parody, “Forks Out.”

As can be seen below, Craig gave a priceless reaction to seeing his enigmatic character turned into a fuzzy Muppet, who was tasked with solving a tricky case just like his movie-star counterpart. Craig is clearly a fan of Sesame Street, and noted as such when saying, “As someone who grew up on Sesame Street, this is quite moving.”

The sketch finds detective Beignet Blanc being aided by Grover to find out who ate Cookie Monster’s pie. Giggling his way through the video, Craig has tremendous fun watching the spoof play out, saying, “I love it. [He’s] much better looking than I am.” He also quipped, “Don’t show this to Rian or I’m recast.”

After joking that his Benoit Blanc needs a sidekick like Grover, after comparing the blue Muppet to Wake Up Dead Man star Josh O’Connor.

“See now that’s the sort of sidekick I need. It’s not dissimilar to the way Josh acts, actually. It’s that little subtle thing he does.”

Finally, for all of those who have wanted to see Daniel Craig star alongside the creations of Jim Henson in a Knives Out/Muppet movie crossover, it is something the former James Bond actor would clearly love to do.

“The only thing I’m spitting feathers about is that I’m not actually there doing it with them.”

Rian Johnson Shut Down a Possible Crossover Between ‘Knives Out’ and The Muppets

Despite it being one of the most common fan requests, Knives Out creator Rian Johnson doesn’t believe that pairing Benoit Blanc with Muppets would work, because it would either break the continuity and reality of the franchise, or end up taking the character out of his own world. He said recently:

“On the Internet, the notion of a Knives Out Muppet movie comes up a lot, and I wanted to get you guys together here so that I could explain why that’s a bad idea. It’s not a ‘bad idea,’ but I love and respect Muppet movies too much, and also Benoit Blanc movies. They’re so different. The reality is, if you put Muppets in a Benoit Blanc movie, it would feel totally wrong because they would be getting murdered.

“The alternative is to just stick Benoit Blanc into a Muppet movie, which admittedly would be very fun, but would kind of break the reality of what Blanc is.”

Who knows, perhaps one day Craig will get to make an appearance alongside Muppets as Benoit Blanc, or even himself, especially with Disney reportedly set to revive The Muppet Show for its upcoming 50th anniversary. We can but hope.
