‘Continuum’ Is a Binge-Watch Time Travel Action Series on Free Streaming

There are some shows that manage to fly under the radar, and when it comes to underrated and forgotten TV shows, one of the best that you have never seen is Canadian time travel series, Continuum. Just like Back to the Future, 12 Monkeys, and even the MCU’s Avengers: Endgame storyline, time travel is one of the most popular sci-fi plot devices in the history of TV and film, and in Continuum, it played out the old classic of a character being trapped in their past attempting to avert disasters of the future.

Set in a future where America has annexed Canada, a terrorist organization known as Liber8 uses a time travel device to go back in time to 2012, but inadvertently drags police officer Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols) along with them. Trapped in a new world, Cameron makes it her task to track down the members of the group and prevent the atrocities of the future she left behind. The full synopsis of the series reads:

“Detective Kiera Cameron is a cop from the year 2077 who was raised to rely on technology more than anything else, even herself. Now she and a group of deadly criminals called Liber8 are trapped in present-day Vancouver. Cameron needs to stop Liber8 before it can take down the corporations which will one day rule the world — thus altering the course of the future and changing the 2077 that Cameron calls home. She enlists the help of a teenage tech genius named Alec Sadler to help figure out a way to get her back to her own time, and she manages to work with the Vancouver Police Department with Detective Carlos Fonnegra to keep an eye on Liber8. With different ideals and backgrounds, Cameron and Fonnegra clash, but they trust each other, and Cameron is slowly learning to trust herself as well.”

‘Continuum’ Is a Fantastic Show That You Need to Binge

Showcase

Warrior Nun creator Simon Berry was the mind behind Continuum, and just like the scrapped Netflix series, the 2012 show was canceled too soon for many fans. Across its four seasons, the final one of which received advance notice that it needed to wrap up the story, the show gained momentum, even landing perfect reviews in its penultimate season.

The show went out on a high, and saw its aggregated score jump up to 88% and 86% from critics and audiences respectively. Even a decade after the show was canceled, it continues to be available via free streaming platforms such as Plex and Pluto TV. With just four seasons, Continuum can be easily binged, and with a finite number of episodes comes with the added bonus of knowing that the end is already written and there will be no canceled season cliffhangers left unresolved.

For those looking for a time travel show that keeps you engaged with a clever plot, strong characters, and, as one review put it, is “the best thing to ever come out of Canada,” why not start 2026 by jumping back in time to when Continuum was one of the greatest TV shows you missed the first time around.
