April 11 – Reigning champions Mexico have been drawn with Costa Rica in group A of the Concacaf Gold Cup. Mexico will open the finals on June 14 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The USA will face first-time tournament guests Saudi Arabia in their group, as well as Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago. If either Mexico or the USA finish second in their group with the other nation winning their group, they will face each other in the quarter final.
In perhaps the most evenly matched group, top seeded Panama (who lost in the final of the Nations League to Mexico last month having beaten the USA in the semi-final) will face Jamaica, Guatemala and Guadeloupe in Group C. While in Group B Canada (who also beat the USA in the Nations League final four to come third), can expect stern opposition from a fast-improving Honduras and a regenerating El Salvador.
The televised draw for the 18th edition of the Concacaf Gold Cup was held in Miami yesterday and was co-hosted by sports anchors and TV presenters Ana Jurka, Mariah Ramharack, and Alejandro Berry.
Concacaf’s Chief Football Competitions Officer, Carlos Fernandez, conducted the draw and was assisted by three former Gold Cup champions Dwayne De Rosario (Canada), Jorge Campos (Mexico), and Marcelo Balboa (USA), alongside Panama’s Blas Pérez.
The Gold Cup will be played June 14 to July 6, across 14 stadium in 11 metropolitan boroughs in the US and Canada. Five of the stadia will be 2026 World Cup venues, while three will be first time hosts. The final on July 6 will be held at NRG Stadium in Houston.
The tournament’s match schedule is expected to be announced later today.
The four groups are:
Group A: Mexico, Costa Rica, Suriname, Dominican Republic
Group B: Canada, Honduras, El Salvador, Curacao
Group C: Panama, Jamaica, Guatemala, Guadeloupe
Group D: United States, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Saudi Arabia
Quarterfinal #1: 1D vs 2A
