The rumors were true… kind of: Colman Domingo was, at one point, in talks to join the MCU. However, the rumors of Domingo taking over for Jonathan Majors as the powerful villain Kang might not be as accurate as you thought.
After appearances in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Majors was set to be the MCU’s next big bad. Even though the Ant-Man sequel made Kang into a laughingstock, the MCU was still looking to establish the villain as an Avengers-level threat. When Majors was convicted of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, Disney cut ties with the actor. This prompted a wave of speculation about how Marvel might move forward without Majors, and rumors began circulating that the studio was looking to recast Kang, possibly with Colman Domingo.

Jonathan Majors Breaks Silence on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Replacing Kang
Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors finally speaks out about Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doctor Doom.
During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Domingo revealed that the countless rumors from so-called insiders were false, but they were based on some shred of truth. “After a while, when it was constantly in the press and on places like Twitter, I was like, ‘Wait a minute, is this true? Am I being talked about for Kang?'” the actor said, addressing the intense popularity of the rumors. Ultimately, Domingo was never directly in talks to replace Majors, and he even revealed he wouldn’t want to take over a character from another actor, explaining:
“There had been conversations of me coming into Marvel in some way, so we did follow up with a sit-down meeting. So I did do that. And we talked openly about the Kang rumors… I want a role to be mine, whatever that role is. Something didn’t feel right of me like, ‘Oh, would I replace someone?’ I said, ‘No, I wanna build something from the ground up that’s my own.”
Whether Marvel Studios internally considered replacing Jonathan Majors with Colman Domingo is anyone’s guess, but Domingo confirmed “that was never a conversation from my point of view.” The two-time Oscar-winning actor rounded out his answer by revealing that, despite the Kang rumors being false, he still wants to be a part of the MCU, and is actively looking to make it happen, concluding:
Who Could Colman Domingo Play in the MCU?
With Colman Domingo still being open to an MCU role in the future, all eyes are turned to which character he could play. Some want the Euphoria star to be the MCU’s Blade. That role currently belongs to Mahershala Ali, but, unlike the Daywalker himself, the actual movie may never see the light of day after being hit with numerous delays.
Domingo has already made his Marvel debut, as the actor currently voices Norman Osborn in the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. However, even Domingo himself admitted that it’s not enough, and he wants to play a live-action character. With the strong fan fare the show is receiving, some are now vying for Domingo to be the new Norman Osborne, if and when they introduce the Green Goblin to the MCU – perhaps in the upcoming Spider-Man 4.
Colman Domingo can be seen in the recent thriller series The Madness, streaming on Netflix.
