Colleen Hoover Adaptation ‘Reminders of Him’ Lands a Director

It’s official! The film adaptation of author Colleen Hoover’s novel Reminders of Him has found its director by way of Englishwoman Vanessa Caswill. This will be the second big screen adaptation of a Hoover book following this year’s It Ends with Us, which – despite being mired in controversy – went on to earn more than $350 million at the box office.

Variety reports that Caswill has been tapped to direct Reminders of Him, which has yet to find its leads, but has set a release date of Feb. 16, 2026. Caswill’s most recent directorial effort was the 2023 Netflix hit Love at First Sight, based on the book The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith. The film was greeted warmly by both fans and critics, and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 76%, with its Popcornmeter sitting slightly higher at 82%.

Caswill has also directed a number of TV shows for the BBC, including 2019’s Gold Digger, the drama series Thirteen, and the 2017 adaptation of Little Women. This time around she’ll look to bring the popular romance novel to life, which to date has sold more than 6.5 million copies. Based on the book’s synopsis below, we expect the film version to be filled with a compelling mix of drama that – hopefully – will have fewer problems behind the scenes than It Ends with Us did.

“After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.

“The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.

“The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.”

Colleen Hoover Is Big Business Right Now

Getting her start as a self-published writer in 2012, Hoover has built her brand into a global phenomenon thanks to her clever twists, engaging characters, and simplistic prose. She went from selling a few books here and there, to now amassing a number of more than 20 million novels sold over the last decade, which garnered the full attention of Hollywood.

Reminders of Him is just one of two projects that are in the works right now to translate Hoover’s stories to both the big and small screens, with the other being the psychological thriller Verity for Prime Video. Anne Hathaway is set to lead the streaming movie, which focuses on the character of Lowen Ashleigh, who is offered the chance to complete the unfinished manuscripts of Verity Crawford, a bestselling author who is bedridden after an accident.

That being said, there’s still no word yet on if we’ll ever get a sequel to It Ends with Us. Star and director Justin Baldoni stated he wants no part of it after doing battle with Blake Lively behind the scenes on the first film, but considering its massive box office take, we expect something to develop down the line which will follow Hoover’s sequel novel, It Stars with Us.

Based on Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel, It Ends With Us is a drama-romance film directed by Justin Baldoni. The film follows a recent college graduate named Lily, who meets a man named Ryle and falls in love with him. However, a traumatic incident compounded with her former high-school sweetheart re-entering her life complicates her plans.
