Clint Eastwood’s Spaghetti Western Masterpiece, ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,’ is Streaming for Free for a Limited Time

One of the greatest westerns ever made, and one of the greatest movies ever made, is streaming for free for a limited time. Both the Golden Age of the western and the genre’s post-modern movement, which we’re currently experiencing, have produced some jaw-dropping westerns. These include action-packed epics like The Magnificent Seven (not the remake), The Wild Bunch, and 3:10 to Yuma, as well as more thought-provoking, slower films, like both versions of True Grit, Unforgiven, and many, many more. Not that the movie should need any introduction, but The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is Sergio Leone’s masterpiece. Leone wrote the script with Luciano Vincenzoni and Agenore Incrocci. Eastwood reprized his role from A Fistful of Dollars and A Few Dollars More as the Man With No Name. Set during the Civil War, the Man with No Name (who’s actually called Joe, but that’s not as fun) teams with the dangerous criminal Tuco (Eli Wallach), running a bounty hunter scam, which goes awry when they’re both nearly killed. But, after the scam goes wrong, the two outlaws must rekindle their cut-throat partnership to find the lost treasure of a Civil War soldier and fend off the sadistic criminal also in search of the fortune. The entire movie is a masterpiece. But, the pièce de résistance is arguably the final shootout, which remains the greatest showdown ever filmed.”

Tarantino has long been vocal about his love for The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and the Dollars trilogy as a whole. “It does what no other trilogy has ever been able to do,” Tarantino told Bill Maher in 2025. “The first movie is terrific. But the second movie is so great… it obliterates the first one. And then, the third one, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, does the same to the second one. And that never happens.”
