Chelsea show good example of how to be smart in one transfer deal

Some transfer deals are much easier to do than others, it’s just all part of it. Some deals need much more negotiating, they need a player to push, they need tactics, they need PR, and they need the media to feed info to.

Other deals don’t need anything at all and just come from nowhere, like the Armando Broja to Burnley deal.

We’d heard nothing at all on Broja and were actually hearing that his most likely destination was going to be Germany just last week.

But then all of a sudden, reports broke that he was close to joining new Premier League club Burnley and within 24 hours, was completing his medical after a deal was agreed with Chelsea, believed to be around £20m.

It’s likely that this has been in the works for a little while but has been kept quiet. But then it’s also a deal that was clearly quite simply to execute. But whatever the reason, this is a fine example of how to do transfer business on the quiet and without the media drama that comes with it.

I love when I see deals like this that come out of nowhere and are done with no time and no nonsense, like how we signed Pedro Neto. Obviously it’s not good for my ‘business’ because reporting on transfer sagas is my niche. But as a fan and from that perspective only, I think it’s great when deals like this happen.

As I say though, not every deal can be like this and I’m not naive enough to think that they can and will be.

Great move for Armando though, good fee for Chelsea, if true, and great deal all around. Well done Chelsea!
