Seven rounds of Champions League matches completed.
Just the one round of games now remaining in the Swiss League stage.
That remaining round sees all 36 teams kick off at the same time, on the same day.
The eighth and final round of 18 Champions League matches all kicking off at 8pm (GMT) tonight, Wednesday 28 January.
Each of the 36 clubs play four games at home and four away, in this Swiss League phase.
In the Swiss League phase of the Champions League, the top eight clubs will automatically go through to the last 16 knockout stages.
Whilst those 16 clubs finishing between 9th and 24th out of the 36 teams, will go into the play-offs to decide the other eight clubs in the last 16.
That has left the Champions League table on Wednesday 28 January 2026 looking like this:
Already automatically qualified for the last 16 knockout stages:
Arsenal, Bayern Munich
Already guaranteed a minimum of a play-off two legged tie for a place in the last 16 knockout stages:
Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Man City, Newcastle United, PSG, Real Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Tottenham
Already knocked out, can’t even potentially get a play-off spot:
Eintracht Frankfurt, Kairat Almaty, Slavia Praha, Villarreal
So the remaining 17 clubs are neither guaranteed to be knocked out nor play more Champions League matches beyond the Swiss League stage.
The final 18 eighth round matches to kick-off at 8pm (GMT) tonight, Wednesday 28 January
