Captain America’s Shield Withstands Alien Xenomorph Acid in New Marvel Crossover

Captain America’s Shield Withstands Alien Xenomorph Acid in New Marvel Crossover

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Alien vs Captain America #2

Whether it’s in the comics or the MCU, Captain America’s shield has always been more than a weapon. It’s an epic symbol and one of Marvel’s most indestructible icons. Now, Marvel has revealed an impressive new feature for Cap’s shield, 85 years later.

Thanks to a brand-new crossover series from Marvel Comics, Captain America’s vibranium shield is held up against one of science fiction’s most dangerous and corrosive substances, settling a long-running fan debate in the process.

Marvel Reveals Captain America’s Shield Can Withstand Xenomorph Acid Blood

Captain America vs Xenomorph

As seen in the new Alien vs Captain America #2 from Frank Tieri and Stefano Raffaele, Steve Rogers finds himself fighting very different threats during WWII. Alongside Bucky Barnes and the Howling Commandos, Captain America is facing a legion of Xenomorphs under the “control” of Hydra and the Red Skull.

During Captain America’s very first fight with a fully grown Xenomorph, Rogers kills the creature, resulting in its highly corrosive and acidic blood splashing over his shield. However, the shield surprisingly doesn’t melt in Rogers’ hands, despite the fact that we’ve routinely seen Xenomorph blood eat through all kinds of surfaces throughout the Alien franchise.

As a result, the fact that Captain America’s shield is able to withstand Xenomorph blood gives Steve Rogers a huge (and very cool) advantage as this new crossover series continues.

This Seems To Be A Brand-New Feature For Vibranium

Interestingly enough, the question of Xenomorph acid blood versus various Marvel metals has been an online debate for years. Fans have speculated about the fictional properties adamantium, vibranium, and uru, and which one would be best suited to hypothetically withstand the alien blood. After all, official Marvel canon didn’t really provide much in the way of tangible answers (until now).

Thanks to this new issue of Alien vs Captain America, Marvel’s latest crossover finally provides an answer when it comes to vibranium.

At least in this alternate continuity, vibranium is able to resist the molecular-level corrosion of Xenomorph blood. As such, it’s likely that the vibranium is able to either absorb, disperse, and/or neutralize the acid’s incredibly destructive properties (making it incredibly handy in the issues to come).

Even if it’s in a crossover that’s technically not official canon to the main Marvel Universe timeline, this new issue has effectively given Captain America’s shield one of its most impressive durability feats yet.

Alien vs Captain America #2 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
