Cameron Diaz To Lead New Netflix Action Comedy ‘Bad Day’

Cameron Diaz’s return to acting is set to continue with another partnership with Netflix. Once one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actresses, Diaz retired on her own terms back in 2014 to focus on her family. She got back into the acting spotlight with the Netflix action comedy, Back in Action, and now she’s continuing that union with another endeavor.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Diaz is set to lead the action comedy Bad Day, a film directed by Jake Szymanski from a screenplay by Laura Solon. The movie is said to be a comedic take on the 1993 drama, Falling Down, which starred Michael Douglas and was directed by Joel Schumacher. In that film, Douglas portrayed a man who was taken to his mental limits while trying to make it to his daughter’s birthday party. In Bad Day, Diaz will play a single mother who is trying to keep a promise to her daughter on what happens to be the worst day of her life. Syzmanski is no stranger to comedies, having directed the critically acclaimed comedy series Jury Duty and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, starring Zac Efron, Adam Devine, Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza.

There was a time when Diaz was on the big screen quite frequently. Beginning with her breakout role in The Mask, the actress sailed through the ’90s to the mid-2000s as one of the most bankable and highest-paid actresses in the industry, thanks to films such as There’s Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angels, Gangs of New York, The Holiday, and many more. In 2014, she starred in three films that included The Other Woman, Sex Tape, and Annie, with the musical adaptation being her last film before she decided to focus on herself and her family. The actress has been married to Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden since 2015 and shares two children with him.

Cameron Diaz Returned to the Limelight in ‘Back in Action’

Following writing two bestsellers and other personal endeavors, Diaz was pulled out of retirement by her Any Given Sundayand Annieco-star, Jamie Foxx, to jump into the action comedy Netflix release,Back in Action. While the film receivedless-than-desirable reviews, registering a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics were pleased to see Diaz back doing what she does best, and she and Foxx did receive positive notices, even from those who weren’t too fond of the film.

Back in Action proved to be a big hit for Netflix, pulling in 46.8 million views in its first three days on the platform. The launch was the biggest debut for an English-language Netflix film since The Adam Project. The film’s appeal to viewers wasn’t limited to its initial launch, as it ranks at No. 6 on Netflix’s most-watched movie list after just six months of release. It appears movie fans missed seeing Cameron Diaz on their screens, big or small.
