The team sheets are in at St James’ Park ahead of the 5.30pm clash between Newcastle United and Brentford.
Coming into the game 11th in the table and with just one win in our last seven in all competitions, Eddie Howe’s Mags need a win – but it won’t be easy against a Brentford side who sit 7th following a win at Aston Villa last Sunday.
Here’s how the two sides line up, with Howe making changes from our midweek defeat at the Etihad.
Newcastle XI: Pope – Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Hall – Bruno, Tonali, Willock – Murphy, Wissa, Barnes
Substitutes: Ramsdale, Osula, Elanga, Woltemade, Burn, A.Murphy, Ramsay, Shahar, Neave
Brentford XI: Kelleher – Kayode, Van den Berg, Ajer, Henry – Janelt, Henderson, Jensen – Outtara, Thiago, Lewis Potter
Eddie Howe has made five changes from Wednesday’s Carabao Cup exit at Man City, seeing Bruno Guimaraes, Nick Pope, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes and Yoane Wissa come back into the side.
Bruno’s return in midfield is a huge boost after missing our last four games, and he partners Joe Willock and Sandro Tonali in the midfield.
Former Brentford ace Wissa starts ahead of Nick Woltemade against his old club, and will have a point to prove after he missed some big opportunities midweek.
As expected, Anthony Gordon misses out with a hamstring injury picked up in midweek, with Joelinton, Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth also absent once again.
For Brentford, they are without suspended winger Kevin Schade after his straight red card in last week’s win at Villa Park. Lewis Potter and Outtara start either side of the dangerous Igor Thiago.
Meanwhile former Sunderland star Jordan Henderson returns the starting XI under Keith Andrews, and he can expect a frosty reception to say the least at St James’ Park.
A huge game in our bid to get back on track. Howay the lads!
