The news of Alexander Isak’s potential departure from Newcastle United has sent shockwaves throughout the world of football.
Currently on their pre-season tour of Asia, Isak’s absence was attributed to an injury scare, before the news began to filter through that Isak was seeking to ‘explore his options’ whilst the Newcastle jet was still in the air.
And in a recent address of the ongoing situation, club captain Bruno Guimaraes has outlined his thoughts on the situation and our lack of signings before singing out Anthony Elanga for big praise.
Bruno has shown his qualities as captain by trying to diffuse the media speculation surrounding Alexander Isak and calling for calm as we wait for transfer breakthroughs.
The Brazilian insists we are in the market “looking for options” and can have success again with new signings, urging patience as Toon chiefs work on additions.
“We are still in the market and looking for new options. But we’ve had success before and we can have success again,” Bruno said.
“I’m more focussed on the players we have here. My job for the club is to try to keep the lads motivated.
“We have to be calm. We have to be patient. We know the directors are working the markets”.
After a tough start to pre-season with a thumping 4-0 loss to Celtic followed by a good run out in a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal, games against a K-League XI and Spurs are now on the horizon.
The last thing we need to show on the pitch and to the watching world is that the off the field issues are having an effect on the on-field performances.
Trying to shift focus away from Isak, Bruno has instead given vast praise to the other Swedish forward at the club.
Elanga scored in Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal and has clearly impressed the captain in training so far:
“We have Elanga, who has surprised me a lot in training, unbelievable.”
It’s not the first time that the former Nottingham Forest ace has drawn acclaim for his hard work in training.
Ever since he joined, the winger has been seen hard at work and has settled well with his new teammates and honing his skills with the staff.
Bruno does acknowledge that the club should perhaps have signed more than Elanga to the first team at this point, echoing the thoughts of the gaffer and the fan base, but again the captain effortlessly puts a positive spin on the situation.
