Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Antony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Jarrod Bowen that you may have missed…
Manchester United are reportedly in the lead to sign England international Anthony Gordon this summer if Newcastle United opt to cash in on the former Everton forward, according to reporting by TeamTalk, but he will cost some serious money.
Gordon, 24, has emerged as one of Newcastle United’s standout performers since joining from Everton in January 2023. The left‑winger has been a key attacking threat for the Magpies, contributing double‑figure goals and assists in Premier League competition and earning international recognition with England.
Manchester United’s interest in the winger has resurfaced in recent weeks, with several outlets suggesting Old Trafford could be his destination should Newcastle decide to entertain offers.
Reports indicate that Man United are currently “in pole position” in the race for Gordon, ahead of rival Premier League clubs including Liverpool. Sources close to the discussions claim that Newcastle would only consider selling Gordon for an offer in the region of £75 million to £85 million — a valuation that reflects the player’s status as one of the league’s most prolific wide attackers.
Newcastle United, however, are not expected to make a decision lightly. The club recently secured Gordon on a long‑term contract that runs until 2030, underlining their intent to build around him as part of Eddie Howe’s long‑term strategy.
With the winger tied down to a lengthy deal, Newcastle hold significant leverage in any negotiations and are likely to demand a substantial fee reflective of his importance to the squad.
Should Manchester United firm up their interest this summer and match Newcastle’s valuation, the winger could once again find himself at the centre of transfer discussions.
For Manchester United, securing a player of Gordon’s profile would bolster their attacking options as they aim to maintain competitiveness across domestic and European competitions. Whether they proceed with a formal bid will depend on negotiations with Newcastle, financial considerations, and the club’s recruitment strategy heading into the summer window.
No official bids have been confirmed, and both clubs are expected to assess their positions as the campaign progresses. Further developments are anticipated as speculation continues into the summer transfer period.
BOWEN MESSAGE SENT
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has urged the club to consider Jarrod Bowen as a transfer target this summer, as speculation mounts over how the Red Devils might strengthen their attacking options in the summer.
Bowen, the West Ham United captain and established England international, has been identified by Parker as a “decent player” who could add depth to United’s wide attacking options — even if he might not immediately displace established starters at Old Trafford.
While Parker did acknowledge that Bowen may not be the transformative signing some fans crave, he suggested the 29‑year‑old’s experience and Premier League know‑how could still be valuable for a Manchester United squad looking to balance youth and experience.
The Hammers forward has been West Ham’s talisman in recent seasons, known for his work rate, goal threat and leadership on the pitch, which has made him one of the more consistent English attackers in the Premier League.
Though Bowen’s goal return this campaign has been affected by West Ham’s broader struggles, his overall quality and adaptability continue to attract attention from clubs across the division, he told PariuriX: “I think Jarrod Bowen is a decent player, but I don’t think he is what Man United needs. I also think he has dropped in level, however he is still very important to West Ham.
“Would I be extremely mad at the club bringing him in to be a squad player? Probably not, but he would never be a starter and I think he needs to be a starter. He has always been that and he is not an impact player as such. He is a player who likes to be involved with the game from start to finish.
“I like him, but he wouldn’t improve Manchester United. He is the type of player who has a ceiling and in my opinion he has hit that ceiling.
‘He is not going to improve a lot with better players around him and he is not better than what we have.”
UNITED TOLD TO SIGN GUIMARAES
Manchester United have been urged to raid Premier League rivals Newcastle United and sign Bruno Guimaraes to replace the departing Casemiro when the summer transfer window opens up in just a few months time.
Casemiro may be having his best spell in that Manchester United shirt, but the Brazilian has already admitted that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, with a number of clubs reportedly interested in offering him a free move.
Guimaraes, signed by Newcastle for £42million in 2022, has grown to become a pivotal player for Eddie Howe’s side and has really developed into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League over the past few seasons.
The 28-year-old has provided nine goals and four assists in the Premier League this season, but is out of contract in June 2028, and former Red Devils striker Louis Saha believes that Guimaraes could be the ideal, ready-made replacement for Casemiro in central midfield.
‘I’ve always been a big fan and defender of Casemiro,’ Saha told AceOdds.
‘He was asked to do one too many roles in the last two years, but that’s been cut and now he’s settled and his role is defined. He’s proved he’s a world-class player and I understand why the fans want him to stay.
‘United need aggressiveness and someone that will dictate the midfield. I see someone more like [Sandro] Tonali or [Bruno] Guimaraes, who are two monsters in midfield.
‘With players like [Kobbie] Mainoo, you need someone alongside him who has the experience and vision to manage the transition when Casemiro goes. You need that experience, directness and decisiveness. It’ll be hard to replace.
‘If you bring in a young player, it’s a disruption. It’s great for the future, but you need experience. If Casemiro goes, I think a combination of [Adam] Wharton and Guimaraes would be great because Guimaraes is more of a captain.’
