Boston Blue Continuity Issue Addressed By Ernie Hudson

The new Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, debuted its first episode on CBS on October 17, 2025. The show, which features Ernie Hudson, has a strange continuity issue involving the actor. However, he explains why it doesn’t matter and reassures viewers that everything will be ok.

Boston Blue is a police procedural drama that sees Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) leave the NYPD after he is offered a position at the Boston Police Department. The spinoff also stars Maggie Lawson (Sarah Silver), Gloria Reuben (Mae Silver), Marcus Scribner (Jonah Silver), Sonequa Martin-Green (Lena Silver), and Mika Amonsen (Sean Reagan).

In an interview with Us Weekly, Hudson, who plays Reverend Peters in the new series, was asked about his 2018 guest appearance in Blue Bloods. At first, the actor laughed and pretended not to know what they were talking about. He said, “That was a character who looked like me, and I think he was distressed.”

Then the actor stated that while he did have a short stint on Blue Bloods playing an entirely different character than his current role in the new show, it didn’t really matter all that much because Boston Blue is meant to be an entirely different entity. “This is a different family — obviously — in Boston. This guy is a just very, very different guy than I remember that character to be. I never like to say, ‘Forget anything I’ve done.’ But it’s just a very different universe and different world.”

Hudson guest starred in season 8, episode 14 (School of Hard Knocks) of the flagship show. He played Darryl Ward, the principal of a school where a student was shot by a gang member. While Danny and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) try to de-escalate the situation, Principal Ward has his own very irresponsible plans to handle the matter.

Boston Blue premiered on October 17, 2025. New episodes will be released on CBS every Friday at 10:00 PM ET and 7:00 PM PT. Blue Bloods is available to stream on Paramount+.
