Born Again Just Perfectly Repeated One Of The Best Moments In The Original Daredevil’s Finale

Daredevil: Born Again

has created plenty of parallels between itself and the original Netflix show, but episode 8’s ending may have been the clearest callback. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

‘s reboot to the popular Netflix series had a lot of hurdles to overcome in adapting and expanding on one of the most popular stories to come out of Marvel in years. The Netflix Daredevil series earned a lot of high praise for it’s creativity, writing, visuals, and faithfulness to the character from the comics, but somehow, the new MCU addition is stacking up.

Realistically, when Born Again was first announced, some of the biggest concerns came because of worries that it may drastically change or edit the previous entry. Being set in a separate universe, and trying to integrate the story of Daredevil into the MCU would prove challenging. However, thanks to the show’s willingness to revisit the past, acknowledge where it came from, and even pay tribute to the earlier series, it’s hitting all the right notes.

Daredevil: Born Again Stays True To It’s Roots With The Original Netflix Series

And with Daredevil: Born Again episode 8’s ending, the idea of a connection between this series and the original became clearer than ever. At the end of Daredevil season 3, Daredevil and Bullseye both crash Wilson Fisk’s wedding reception. Fisk is wearing a white suit, and Bullseye turns up in a Daredevil costume ready to wreak havoc. He starts by flinging a billy club at Vanessa, which is immediately deflected by Daredevil, and the pair begin to brawl, causing complete chaos and destruction while Fisk and Vanessa flee to safety.

In Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock storms the black tie event, where Fisk is wearing a white suit, to confront the Mayor. Bullseye shows up shortly after, and takes aim at the Mayor. With the party in disarray, Murdock is forced to use his incredible speed and perception and jumps in front of a bullet to protect Fisk. And in the aftermath, Fisk and Vanessa flee to safety. The connections are clear, and the way that the show created this parallel suggests there could be further connections.

The Series Delivers Quality Storytelling And A Return To Form

The reboot needed to ensure that it did not overwrite, erase, or put down the previous project starring Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. The pair were an inspired choice in casting, and the fact that the MCU recognized and trusted these actors to move the story forward was a big deal. So, expanding on their work, and acknowledging what came before makes sense on several levels. It’s a full-circle moment as the show sees these characters come so far, only to be in the same position that they were years earlier. It builds tension for the finale, and it is the perfect way to showcase Matt’s character as a hero.

Daredevil: Born Again is setting up to make a huge impact with the final episode of season one, but needs certain things to happen to succeed.

Earlier in the episode, Bullseye is the one who tells Matt Murdock that real heroes protect their greatest enemies, and in the final moments of this episode, Matt does just that. It also proves that the new team heading the show are in a great position, in terms of understanding the characters, and the people playing them. They appreciate and respect the material that took them this far, and they are building on it. The result is an incredibly driven and intense reboot in Daredevil: Born Again that is ready to take this character and story forward.
