Kaley Cuoco Moves Back to TV After Action Comedy Flop

Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo in Role Play
Prime Video

In early 2024, Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo tried their hand at the action comedy genre, an explosive venture that did not end up paying off. Role Play released on Prime Video in January to poor reviews from critics, garnering a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were slightly more receptive to the film, but the 42% Popcornmeter score is not a winning number either. The fact that it failed to dominate Prime Video’s streaming charts is also an eye-opener. However, that doesn’t mean Role Play doesn’t have its fans, especially since it gives off some Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibes.

Aside from Cuoco and Oyelowo, the film’s cast features Connie Nielsen and Bill Nighy. Role Play was directed by Thomas Vincent, whose previous work includes Reacher, Bodyguard, and Possessions. The story follows a secret assassin whose marriage is turned upside down when her cover is blown during a night of role-play with her husband. Check out the official synopsis below:

Emma (Kaley Cuoco) and Dave (David Oyelowo) spice up their wedding anniversary with a night of role-play in New York City. But things turn perilous when Emma’s secret life as an international assassin, unknown to Dave, is exposed by Bob (Bill Nighy), jeopardizing her family. Emma must rely on her lethal skills and determination to protect her family at all costs.
