Best MCU Characters Deadpool Should Team Up With

The first time fans got to see Deadpool on the big screen was in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But if there’s anything we have learned about how Ryan Reynolds feels about that portrayal of the Merc with a Mouth, it’s that he wishes he could go back in time and erase that version. Multiple times in Deadpool and Deadpool 2, Reynolds jokes about how much that version of the character is hated. But alas, it is because of this terrible decision by movie producers that Reynolds and others went out of their way to leak what a real Deadpool movie could look like.

The success of the first two Deadpool movies proved that an R-rated superhero film could not only be a critically acclaimed film, but a box office hit. Now, with the recent success of Deadpool and Wolverine, we not only know that Deadpool can be an R-rated box office hit, but it can also exist within the traditionally family-friendly MCU. It also is making fans wonder who Deadpool will team up with next. Here are some options.

10 Iron Man

Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) teaming up with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) would be difficult considering Tony Stark died in Avengers: Endgame. But if they can bring Loki back three or four times, why not revive Iron Man once? One of the biggest and arguably most important characters of the MCU teaming up with one of the most marketable characters in Deadpool would be a grand slam from a production standpoint. And it’s not like Robert Downey Jr. won’t be around to make it happen – it’s already been announced in a big way that he’s returning to the MCU to play infamous comic book villain Doctor Doom.

Picture Deadpool Flying in an Iron Man Suit

If there’s one thing we learned from Infinity War, it’s that Robert Downey Jr. reacting to the goofy antics that Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) bring to the table, is freaking funny. So replace them with the rated-R humor of Deadpool, and you’ll undoubtedly get a comedy gold mine. This movie would likely be full of slapstick humor and great quips at each other. The thought of Deadpool stealing one of Tony’s suits alone means Kevin Feige should make this happen.

9 Captain America

The Star Spangled Man with a plan, teaming up with God’s Perfect Idiot. What could go wrong? Captain America (Chris Evans) and Deadpool could not be more different from each other. Cap is a symbol of freedom and justice for America, who would gladly lay his life on the line for not only his country, but the world. Deadpool on the other hand, crashes Celine Dion music videos and does dirty deeds with his crocks. We already got to see Evans (albeit as the Human Torch) and Reynolds play hilariously off each other in Deadpool & Wolverine, so the proof of chemistry is right there for all to see.

Deadpool Posing with the Captain America Shield

Evans and Reynolds together was a treat to watch. Even though Cap seems to be cool with cursing now, fans of How It Should Have Ended know that the Merc with the Mouth’s colorful language may get on the First Avenger’s nerves. Plus, it would be fun to see Deadpool coming up with elaborate plans to steal Cap’s shield.

Deadpool & Wolverine Tried to Recruit Another Fan-Favorite Marvel Hero

The Deadpool sequel has plenty of Marvel cameos, but this one may have taken the cake.

8 Spider-Man

Deadpool is a huge Spider-Man fan. So putting these two together would be a similar bromance to what we got to see in Deadpool and Wolverine. Wade fawning over Peter Parker (Tom Holland) would be wildly inappropriate, but what would you expect from the Merc with a Mouth?

Another MCU Bromance in the Making

A Spider-Man/Deadpool team-up is even more intriguing considering what happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is no longer alone in the MCU. Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield could both be involved in this film, and it would make Deadpool the happiest little kid in the world.

7 The Hulk

Deadpool teaming up with the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) would be entertaining, but it could also get old quick. One of the main gags would likely be Hulk smashing Deadpool when he gets out of line. It’s a simple gag, but this movie would need more depth than that. Fortunately, we have Smart Hulk now.

Hulk Smash Deadpool… Over and Over

In Avengers: Endgame, Bruce Banner figured out how to put the brains and the brawn together, introducing Smart Hulk to the MCU. This would be the depth a Hulk-Deadpool movie would need. Deadpool would likely annoy Bruce into a classic Hulk Smash rampage, which might lead to Banner pulling a Juggernaut from Deadpool 2 and ripping Wade in half again.

6 Dr. Strange

The intelligence difference alone is reason enough for fans to want to watch these two team up together. Even though Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) isn’t the Sorcerer Supreme in the MCU, is he one of the brightest minds on Earth, and he is one of the smartest beings in the multiverse. Deadpool, on the other hand, is more street-smart.

More Marvel Jesus Saving the Multiverse

Now, even though there is a vast difference in their intellect, Deadpool and Strange are still two of the biggest wisecrackers in the MCU. Deadpool can easily keep pace with Strange’s humor. That being said, if these two teamed up, fans could likely expect a lot of quick back-and-forth witty dialogue. It would be the kind of movie you would need to watch multiple times just to catch all the jokes. Both also have experience in the multiverse, which is something most other Avengers don’t have.

5 Daredevil

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) lost his sight as a child, so, naturally, he decides to learn kung fu and use his heightened senses to run around Hell’s Kitchen and fight crime. We have seen Daredevil team up with a number of superheroes in the MCU. Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage all worked well with Daredevil in The Defenders, but none of them were insane, like Deadpool.

Blind Leading the Crazy Mercenary

Obviously, Deadpool is going to make blind jokes in the team-up. But this would also be similar to Dr. Strange and Iron Man. Matt Murdock is a top-notch lawyer and a very intelligent man. So we would see a comedic clash between someone who is book-smart and an insane mercenary who is street-smart.

4 She-Hulk

Despite her show on Disney + getting a lot of backlash from some fans, She-Hulk is still a beloved superhero. In She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Tatiana Maslany brought Jennifer Walters to life and overall her performance was solid. She made the character fun and played off other MCU characters like Wong (BD Wong) and Matt Murdock well, which is why seeing her team up with Deadpool would not only be a lot of fun to watch, but it could help breathe new life into the She-Hulk franchise.

Two Fourth Wall Breakers Working Together

What would make this team-up different from the others is that She-Hulk is currently the only other MCU character to break the fourth wall. That alone would make for some gut-busting comedy sequences. But like her cousin Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters is an educated lawyer, so we would get the comedic interactions between someone who is book smart and one who is street smart. It would also be funny to see She-Hulk break Deadpool’s jaw in court to get him to stop talking.

3 Ant-Man

We’re getting away from intellectuals and super strong behemoths interacting with Deadpool, and pairing Wade with a goofy charming cat burglar who can shrink to microscopic levels. Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Deadpool together would make a perfect popcorn movie. Ryan Reynolds and Rudd seem like they would have one of the best onscreen bromances if they got to make this movie.

Look, I’m Big Deadpool… Now I’m Tiny Deadpool

Watching Ant-Man trying to corral Deadpool’s chaotic nature would be hilarious considering Scott Lang himself is a huge man-child. There would likely be moments when Lang is going along with the shenanigans of Deadpool, followed by Lang trying to take control of the situation in a comedic fashion. But really just the idea of Deadpool having access to the Pym Particle would be a hilarious film to watch.

A major fan theory from Deadpool & Wolverine confirms the X-Men’s absence from the MCU, and it actually makes sense.

2 The Punisher

One thing that makes a Punisher-Deadpool team-up unique is that there’s really nothing Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) can do to get Deadpool to shut up. Castle isn’t a giant green rage monster, or a super soldier, nor does he have an OP super suit. He is just really skilled with his weapons. So Castle and Deadpool are really on the same level when it comes to combat and weapons.

These Two Will Make ‘The Boys’ Proud

On paper, these two like to handle their enemies the same way. Find them, and kill them. Getting to watch Deadpool team up with someone who shares his passion for blood and chaos would be funny and extremely violent. There would likely be more blood, guts, and profanity than in the entire series of The Boys.

1 Rocket & Groot

Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) alone deserve their own movie. There wouldn’t even need to be a huge world-building plot. Just the two of them walking around doing their daily chores would be an entertaining comedy. Throw Deadpool into the mix, and this movie has the potential to be the funniest MCU film of all time.

I am Groot… I am Deadpool…

This team-up would play to one of Ryan Reynolds’ strengths: Improv. Since Groot can only say “I am Groot,” for the most part, this would give Reynolds plenty of opportunity to carry his dialogue in any direction he chooses. Plus, watching Rocket trying to corral the shenanigans Groot and Deadpool get into will be hilarious for us, but poor Rocket may need a few bottles of Tylenol.
