Bees boost 2024/25 revenue but stung by £20m+ of losses

February 12 – Premier League Brentford have posted record revenues of £173.1 million for the 2024–25 financial year, up from £166.5 million, but despite being noted for their data driven and economic approach, have still shown a pre-tax loss of £20.5 million.

Operating losses before player trading widened to £40 million. Wages and amortisation climbed as Brentford continued to invest in the squad, adding Fábio Carvalho, Gustavo Nunes, Igor Thiago, Jayden Meghoma, Michael Kayode and Sepp van den Berg. These signings are consistent with the ethos of the club that favours age profile, resale value, and upside.

Outgoing transfers are still the big earner for the London club. Profits of £27.2 million again underlined how central clever, far-sighted recruitment and sales remain to the Brentford model. While these names didn’t hit the books, the sales of Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Christian Nørgaard, have generated close to £100 million, much of it profit.

Debt, however, is rising. Third-party net debt more than doubled to £71 million. Owner Matthew Benham’s total investment sits at £104.4 million, a reminder that Brentford’s sustainability is still anchored by patient capital rather than short-term returns.

Chair Cliff Crown said the numbers were progress. “Our financial performance for the year reflects our continued investment in our first team playing squad, our off-field operations, Jersey Road training ground and club infrastructure.”

Beyond the first team, the reserve team and women’s programme continued to advance, reinforcing Brentford’s long-term view of development.
